- Adam12 contributionsAmazing family funWe had a great sunset tour with My wife and six year old son. Takeshi is a great guide and instructor. After some briefing we were driving the sled ourselves and taking turns while Takeshi followed us on a snowmobile, took photos and gave us occasional instruction. The dogs were really friendly and well trained, and you could see how much they loved to run. Takeshi’s setup is great, he has a full range of snow gear available to borrow if you need and he also helped us arrange taxis to and from Shintoku station. This was a great trip and well worth the travel.Visited December 2022Traveled with familyWritten December 24, 2022
- Yoon4 contributionsWonderful Dog Sledding Experience in HokkaidoTook us about 3hrs to reach the location but its was a well worth drive. Takeshi was very accommodating throughout the entire process from booking to sledding. We arrived late due to bad weather but he still gave us a wonderful experience. He explained the instructions clearly and prepare you for any issues that might occur during the run, which came in handy for us as one of the fluffy runners had to carry out urgent business mid run. Would highly recommend to any one looking to experience dog sledding.Visited January 2023Written January 15, 2023

Shintoku and Shikaoi are both charming places which are peaceful and relaxing. Everything went well from booking tour, Takeshi helping to arranging taxi pick up from/ to Shintoku, interacting with the excited dogs, the 12km sledding trip, the nice tea and hot chocolate and cake snacks after. You are in control of the sled although the dogs know where they are going. Takeshi follows to take beautiful video and photos and the best is, you get to keep all these! We finished our trip with yummy soba at Minatoya (2 min walk from Shintoku station). You can also choose to stay overnight to explore Shintoku or shikaoi. Totally worth the time and effort making the journey over!Visited February 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 8, 2023

I chanced upon Mushing Works for dog sledding while searching for dog sledding and decided to try while on my holiday trip in Dec 2017. We took the 7.00am Limited Express Ozara 1 JR train from Sapporo to Shintoku. Reached at 8.55am and was well greeted by the taxi driver carrying the sign Mushing Works. This taxi ride was pre-arranged by the host Takeshi san and we paid around 5430 JPY. Upon reaching Shikaoi town, Takeshi san was there to pick us up at 9.30am. We reached his place at around 9.45am. Warm clothing, shoe, gloves and scarf was provided to get ready for our dog sledding. Takeshi san has a total of 28 mixed breed huskies. We started one first experience with dog sledding and was very pleased and satisfied with the host. After the tour, hot beverage and homemade slice cake was provided to ease our hunger. We were shown with video clips and photographs. Had a wonderful times chatting with the host. We felt there could be more time to stay around to enjoy and chat but unfortunately we had to catch up our next train at 1.30pm. Takeshi san fetch is to Shikaoi town to get a taxi back to Shintoku station to catch our next train to Kita-Hiroshima for our shopping trip in Mitsui Outlet. Those who want to experience a good dog sledding with an excellent host, look no further. This is the place to come and enjoy yourself especially when you will feel totally safe with the host. Lastly Takeshi san speaks fluently in English.

We had a great afternoon at mushing works. You get to drive the sled yourself (though the dogs know where they are going) and the owner drives around on a snow mobile to wait for you at certain spots. The whole experience made for a very fun afternoon.
The dogs are incredibly friendly and love to be fused which is surprising for working dogs.
The route is out around the fields behind the kennels area and you probably cover 10km or so in total which is enough. They'll stop you every 15 minutes or so to give the dogs a rest, take some photos, and rearrange the dogs if needed.
We were lucky that a couple of amateur photographers were out with the owner dooing a shoot so we got some great photos of our time

I highly recommend Mushing Works for everyone! We got lucky that there was enough snow last December 10, 2017 and they accommodated our booking. Going to Mushing Work is very easy even for foreigners. The owner Takeshi will even pick you up at the train station.
I cannot wait to go back someday!

This was the highlight of our Sapporo trip, Takeshi san and Connie was very friendly and accommodating to us!
Dogs were Super Friendly and excited to bring us on our sledging journey (obvious that they are well taken care off) The speed of the sledge was just nice for taking videos/photos with one hand too!
The weather was good and clear when we did our sledging in Jan 19, surrounding views were amazing and the track was simple yet exciting!
Warm clothing was also provided from head to toe so you do not have to worry about the cold, they were also very clean as well.
Would be best to stay in Shikaoi if you do not drive as transportation is poor in the non city area of Hokkaido and the cab fare from shintoku to Shikoai will set you back around 5000yen. We stayed at the Yorkshire farm (amazing place) and Takeshi picked us up half way (thankfully as we only paid 4000yen instead of around 8000yen for the full trip to mushing)
All in all, mushing dog sledging experience is a must go if you are into dogs or looking for an activity to do in Hokkaido!

The venue is about 2.5hours from Sapporo and a mere 30mins from Shikaoi town. I'd advise staying in Shikaoi so that you don't have a long drive to the venue. Once there the fun begins. You are greeted by over 20 dogs all eager to go for their run. Takeshi san and his team are very accommodating and even rode ahead of us to take photos and videos which he happily transfers the images to your device or SD card. The appropriate gear and boots are on loan to you at no charge. The ride was a totally fun and memorable experience. This is one ride you should try out if you have not done so yet. As for me and my partner, we'd definitely want to do it again!

Hi, is this tour available everyday during winter or on weekend / certain day only?

Hi. This tour is best booked online due to limited slots of 2 teams in the morning and 2 teams in the afternoon. It's also subjected to weather conditions that's the reason why it's best to book online to select and reserve your slot. Hope this helps and have a memorable experience.

Thanks for inquiry. Would you please ask for that 3 or 4 days before again? Now we have much snow for dog sledding but it's getting warmer and warmer.
