We were in Furano Biei between July 5-15th 2009.
Most of the flower fields I was hoping to walk to were just too far away esp in Biei. Thankfully the Nakafurano Choei flower field was about 20mins from the Nakafurano JR station. The weather was cloudy and it was rather cool and pleasant. At least the streets had proper pavements for us so it was much safer.
From the Nakafurano JR station, just take the covered bridge and walk along the street. Get a Nakafurano brochure from the Furano Tourist Information which will help you get your bearings.
I am a little confused about the actual name of this flower field. I am not sure whether its the Nakafurano Lavender Park, Nakafurano Choei (Tyoei) Lavender Park or Mt Hokuseiyama chair lift. Perhaps it goes by all these names.
We decided to skip the chairlift and walked up the wooden steps to the top of the field. Nice view of the mountains afar off. I would recommend taking the chairlift on the way down.
There was a little cafe but all the windows were closed making it a little stuffy esp with the curry smell wafting through the place. Pity because it had a nice view. You can get some drinks at the open stall or at the dispensing machines instead.
Overall a pleasant stroll if you are not in a hurry. We were on a free and easy trip so there was no rush.
Do remember to get the train timetable from the Furano Tourist Information so you can time your return journey. It took us about 20mins - leisurely stroll from the Nakafurano station to the flower field. There's no shade along the way - it can be rather hot on a sunny day. Thankfully it was a cloudy and rather windy day for us.
The Nakafurano JR station is also where you can get a taxi to La Terre Spa Resort (cost us Yen1150). Pls read my reviews and tips on Natulux Hotel, La Terre and Asahikawa Grand (we based ourselves there for 4 days before moving to Furano Natulux).

We came to Choei Lavender Far from Sapporo. It takes 1 hour 10 minutes by Limited Express to Asahikawa and 40 minutes by local train from Asahikawa to Lavender Farm located near Furano. Many Japanese visit farm every day. It is beautiful in any weather. There are many kinds of flowers (not only lavender) in the farm. Visitors may enjoy by sight-seeing, shopping in local souvenir stores and tasty meal in restaurants.

This was the first place I visited when I reached Nakafurano as it was just behind the train station. The staff at the train station was very helpful with the direction to get here. The chairlift is cheap. You can get a discount coupon at the train station. I loved the smell of lavender as I got on the chairlift. And they placed some classical music in the background. There are some benches at the top of the hill and you can sit there overlooking the whole of Nakafurano town and surrounding mountains, breathing in the smell of lavender and listening to calm classical music. Most importantly, it is not crowded. A small place to enjoy some peace and nature.

Its pretty close by Farm Tomita. If you are taking train, you can either walk to this farm from Nakafurano station, then towards farm Tomita, or stop at Lavender Farm station, visit Farm tomita then come over here.
They have a ropeway to go up the hill to watch the gardens and surrounding scenery. Best to visit during summer, but it will be a downer if it rains.

After we left Farm Tomita and rode about 3 mins to flowerland, we are happy to see the chair lift that can take you up the slope. It is not a very big flower garden but the chair lift is what we are interested in. We bought the tickets (250 yen if you have a discount discount from travel desk, else 300 yen) and took the chair lift up. On your way up, snap all the pictures you want. Nice view from the hill top too.
We departed at 12 pm and it took about 4 mins ride back to the bicycle rental shop. Return the bikes and walk back to Naka-Furano station to catch the 1233 hrs bus back to Furano station.
From departing Furano station at 0820 hrs and returning back at 1240 hrs, you can enjoy Farm Tomita and Flowerland at your own leisure pace on bicycle

The chairlift is part of the fun. It's nice to see flowers against the distant backdrop of Mt. Tokachidake. However, it gets very very busy in early afternoon with lines of cars stretching beyond miles.... So, plan it well and try to do it on weekdays in early morning or late afternoon.

I visited the farm in July 2010.
Since it was the season of flower viewing, the flowers are beautiful with many colors.
I also made fun by taking the chairlift ride. The ride takes you to the top of the hill and you could have a wider view on the sea of flowers and the small town!
Overall the trip to this farm is relaxing and refreshing, especially to those who live in big cities.

This farm is not as big as the others, but still enjoyable as we can ride a chairlift and have a beautiful view of the city from uphill. The staff in nakafurano station gave each of us a 50% coupon discount, totally worth it!

Thank you for your comment. Please let me correct one thing. The coupon is 50JPY discount not 50%.

Hi, we would like to visit the farm on 27 of this march is there any flower bloom?
The earliest flower of any kind in this area usually blooms in the early June though it will only cover small part of fields.

will there have lavender in that day?
is there have weight limit for chairlift?
Thank you for your inquiry. If your "that day" means June 10th commented below, it is possible to see the first little bloom but not full. Lavender of early-bloom species begins to turn into purple in the end of June usually.

10Jun2017 chairlift open? park open?
We plan to open single-chair lift from June 17th (sat). The open hour is from 9:00 to 18:00; however, the last call of going up is 17:40 and going down is 17:55. Please be advise that after 18:00 you may have to walk back by yourselves, and so catch it before closing.
Regarding to lavender flowering, it is common that they start blooming from late-June even though it surely depends on weather in spring and early summer.
