Quiet gem
Dec 2018
I had been there twice in winter. It was off-season and quiet, but the sheer amount of snow that falls there makes for an astounding landscape. To sit outside in an onsen amidst the snow is surreal. I highly recommend Fukiage Onsen.

Driving up Tokachidake Onsen offers nice scenery. Besides the indoor onsen, there are are two outdoor onsen, offering a nice view.

Hot Spring at Tokachidake in winter
Jan 2017
3 separate hot springs: naked ladies only, naked men only, both sexes in swimsuits. You can hire towels and swimsuits. Dangerous road in winter.

Lovely scenery
Apr 2016 • Family
A little onsen up the mountains. Really nice scenery on the way up. My wife and kids found the onsen ok. The major attraction is really the view. We were taken by the layers of snow and the bluest skies.

Great break from skiing
Feb 2016 • Family
Great experience on a wet day. Easy to get there using public transport. Not too hot so could hang out in the Onsen for a couple of hours.

Incredible!
Stunning surrounds and great people! The owner is an OG Legend! Thanks so much for an awesome time! We stayed in our little green van but used the Onsen on the reg and had awesome chats with the owner.

I love this place
Jan 2012 • Friends
But please dont visit - as I would prefer to have it to myself.

Great for skiing. Super food. Lovely people (though less fun now that Keiji is not there any more). Anyone who loves the Japanese hills and the culture that exists there will love it here.

Maybe "too authentic" for some.

The Japanese rooms are better than the western ones (in my opinion).

Would be boring for young kids in winter.
