Shirakawago is not that large, and there are many model routes for visitors. I followed one of the routes starting from Myozenji Temple. This is a temple belonging to the Buddhist Jodo-shinshuu sect, with the only Gassho-style bell-tower and main temple building in Japan. The kuri (building for the monk's housing and kitchen) now serves as a local history museum.

This is the best of the 4 houses to visit as the entrance ticket covers a visit to the temple as well as a free small photo taken of you inside the house. Good place to visit to see what the interiors of these houses look like and how the people lived . No need to visit other houses as they all essentially look the same . I will choose this pjs e to visit over the other houses as the deals they offer are better than the other houses

This must be one of the most unusual Shin Buddhist temples in Japan or anywhere in the world. It belongs to the Higashi Honganji (Jodo Shinshu) school.

Myozenji is the biggest Gasho construction in the village. From the second floor, you can take a nice view of the village.

The structure of the house itself was worth visiting, but comparing with neighboring gassho-style houses such as kanda house, people here are not friendly at all, and seemed not welcoming the guests very much...

This is a nice place to see and understand the lifestyle of the locals, depicting of long withstanding culture and history, and you can have a wonderful experience. It's the Gasho themed styled houses that's beautiful and lovely!

As we had limited time to spend here, we didn't really have the luxury of time to visit every part (do note that the carpark closes at 5pm and all vehicles must leave before that) and it was already 4.30pm then, so we rushed before making our way back to the entrance, that officially wrapped up our day tour here!

On the bottom floor there is a room with a fire going. The two floors upside are all black with some agricultaral appliances on display. The building is open to the short side and offers great views on the neighboring buildings and gardens. There is also a photographer making portraits and giving you a small version free. Good for around 20 minutes to have a better idea of the inside of these buildings and some information on living conditions and the use of fire/smoke. This is the largest Gasho building in the village.

Myozenji is the largest Gasho structure in the village. You can go up to the second floor to view the village at upper level. The house seems to belong to another stream of believe but we have to time to enquire on the details.

Another example of the gassho-zukuri style of house building in the unspoiled village of Ogimachi which is so worth a visit!
