This museum small village beside Shirakawago is worth visiting. You can go inside the houses which have been moved from their original locations. There's a small waterfall that makes for a perfect magical setting.

If you get a chance, it is worth the 90 minute drive each way. Recommend going early in the morning to avoid the tour bus traffic and be able to take lots of pictures. We have been several times and never tire of the beauty of this town!

Traditional

The museum included a number of traditional gasshozukuri houses, designed to withstand heavy snowfall with their steep grass roofs. Despite the hot weather the snow on the ground was thick and due to my partners questionable navigation around the museum I managed to lose half my leg in snowfall. Be warned to wear suitable footwear, unlike myself!

A wonderful way to build . .

The gassho-zukuri architecture, which translates as "praying hands" is designed to speed up losing the snow in winter and the roof is constructed without nails using wooden beams tied with rope

Its located near the entrance of the village with entrance fee is 60yen per person. There are at least more than 3 houses that you can enter (in the village , will cost you 30yen per house to visit) . Some of the houses are relocated there and preserved. The scenary really beautiful! There are few toilet within the museum itself and toeards the end , a small shop for sourvineer and ice cream.
