Beautiful walk in the woods
Oct 2020 • Family
Loved the short walk but beautiful Forrest full of pine threes. A family oriented tour but must wear hiking shoes. In the rainy season a walking pole is a very good idea.

A perfect half day trip
Jan 2020 • Solo
The easiest way to get there by bus at 6:30 from the north bus station, the only day the bus doesn't go is Wednesday and for sure that's the day I wanted to go so I decide to go by walking it's 8km from the city took me 1.5 hours... The waterfall is beautiful and big area you can spend much time that you want and on the way back go or walking or hitchhike back to town.
Entrance coat 25...

Great day out.
Feb 2018
You have to take the early local bus at 6:30am up to the reserve. We were then met by our lovely guide Eliodoro (Eliotour). The first couple of hours is spent at Alberto Gutirrez's unusual art gallery of his mountain carvings. Then you hike you into the reserve, with its fantastic views of the volcano range and Honduras. The return bus leaves for Esteli at 3:30 from the reserve entrance. (Note Eliodoro does not speak English).

Much potential held back by bad road
Dec 2017 • Couples
Nice natural area.
The waterfall is nice in the rainy season, can be a little underwhelming during drought. Good trail at Cerro Tisey and typica restaurant at Ecopasada Tisey. Some other hiking trails at La Garnacha. Craft stores in several locations.

Cons: bad road from hospital, public transportation limited, not a lot of infrastructure to support tourism. Road from Rancho Don Luis is a little better.

Nice place to see by yourself
Jan 2018 • Solo
Hi,

Your can do this visit by yourself.
Take the bus at 6:30 am.
Then after 1h, stop at finca el jacate. Just follow the signe, and then you Will see the nice place with lots of curved stone and the ermite. After that go on the main road
500m to la granacha. Then 1,2km to the village there is easy small trail to see point of view. You can ask People to visit the cheese factory, the farm, ... a local guide take 5$. Then there is a bus to return at 3pm but arrive usually later. I choose to go by walking and hitchhiking, the 15km to come back at 1:30 pm. And I arrive at 3pm
.
Arrêt a finca el jalacate visite d'une petite colline ou un ermite a fait un parc plein de sculptures. Puis on marche un peu et
Visite ensuite de la coopérative la granacha.
Visite fromagerie,  la ferme, jolie point de vue

Is a beautiful peaceful private property , if the restaurants are open the entrance is free , if not $10 Cordobas per person, the weather is cool.

Cerró Apaguaji, Garnacha, and Estanzuela
Dec 2016 • Couples
We had a car, so this review do ant include information on taxi or public transit. We really liked the area. Ther were lots of farmland and eco-friendly communities. We drove up to La Garnacha and hiked to Cerro Apaguaji. It was an easy hike and the only issue was the knock-you-over wind! We walked around Garnacha, bought some yummy cheese, and some basket souvenirs. We drove down to Estanzuela and walked the 8 minutes from the gate to the waterfall. Nothing absolutely amazing, but a great way to spend the day if you're near Estelí!

Went with a guide, who was knowledgable enough but seemed a bit lazy, we would have liked to hike a lot more because the area is beautiful, the visits to see the stone carver was excellent, the rest just a bit too touristy and contrived
