This was the second time I set out to see the falls. There are no signs along the highway. If you are coming from Liberia look for the sign that says Bagaces 5 km. About 1 km further on you will go under a pedestrian overpass. Turn right immediately onto a gravel road with a sign that says falls 800... More

We landed in Liberia and rented a car. We were heading to La Fortuna and stopped in at this beautiful waterfall. Right on the way and relatively easy to find. The sign comes up quick and easy to miss, so watch for it. Had to make a donation to get in and also pay a small fee for parking. It... More

Somewhat hard to find, just off the Pan American highway but worth the trip. Bring a picnic lunch, a beach towel and your camera. The road in is bumpy, the climb down is treacherous but the effort is worth it. A sandy beach surrounds a beautiful pond fed by the waterfall (catarata). Plenty of shade. Good swimming and the sound... More

Not the best way to spend your time in Costa Rica. A fee to enter the park, and another to see the falls. Not good. Guides trying to enlist you for tours. Not needed. Seen better.

Ok, I'll give it to. The Falls were great. For like 10 minutes. The rest of it was a total mess. A think a good caveat would be to get there early. It might be nicer. My experience was pretty weak. First, a massive amount of people squeezed into a small area. Once you get to the base (a steep... More

We were driving between La Fortuna Costa Rica and Playa Hermosa (about 3 1/2 hour drive) and asked our driver to stop at a waterfall somewhere between. Located just outside the city of Liberia is this beautiful waterfall tucked into a dry, dusty bit of land. It was about 2 miles off the highway on a dirt road. It was... More

We booked this half day excursion to the "Cataratas" (small waterfalls) through CAT Tours in the lobby of the Riu Palace. Took 1-1/2 hrs. to get there and the guide was extremely helpful and informative about the region. He said he takes his family to these falls regularly. In spite of a tricky walk down a steep path (and back... More

We did a tour which included a visit to a beautiful waterfall. It was a little dicey getting to the falls walking on a dirt and rock path downhill, but the distance was not that great and if I could make it with recent knee surgery, most anyone can. The waterfall was very photogenic and you could actually swim in... More

The walk down to the falls is not the easiest, certainly not for the disabled or aged, but it is beautiful once you reach the falls. Most of our group went swimming and loved it.
