Awesome resort with long runs! Not too busy (apart from weekends in december and weekends in february). Nice restaurants, and a really amazing back country area. Its very high up, so also generally has the best snow out of the other nearby resorts. Only thing is it is not really appropriate for beginners. If you can do blue runs you... More

what a great experience skiing in kagura mitsumata. long slopes in very good condition, there was people but not too many to disturb and there were plenty of lifts taking us up thus queuing was close to none. i must go again.

Japanese don't seem to groom their runs. We had two nice days of powder. But the third day was brutal because the snow was packed and icy. They should invest in groomers.

The weather was so warm there were literally people skiing topless (one guy). I wore one long sleeve shirt and felt... More

If you look for a day trip skiing from Tokyo (weekday or weekend) a really great place to go is Kagura (northwest of Tokyo). Train to Echigo-Yuzawa (70min), bus to Kagura (<30 min) and there it is. It's a quite wide spread resort resulting in some "transport" and it's mostly "red" ... but it's high altitude, not crowded and best... More

I went on my first snowboarding trip here. It has a nice beginner slope at the beginning and then a set of 3 that works well for first timers also. It was a nice little area with beautiful scenery.

very local atmosphere, can be a bit challenge if no Japanese language skill at all. excellent long slop for beginner and dedicate place for sled. not too commercial, really like it.
