Beautiful cycle path. My deaf blind friend had a great time on the tandem with me, even though we did get a bit wet!

2019 with my now-ex, 2020 alone, 2021 with my bestie... whomever you (don't) accompany, the locks are a spectacular piece of engineering. Best to go when the Navigation is open, as was the case in 2019 and 2021. No pubs = not a very rewarding walk!

My experience at the Marple locks was amazing. You would have to be bonkers not to go there!!! Its a great place for kids and the nature surrounding is astonishing you could probably see about 20 different species of birds there if you go n a nice day.

It's a place we regularly visit. It's great for the children to see barges going through the locks and then we have the treat of feeding the ducks and playing on Brabings park.

We walked from Romiley by the canal seeing all kinds of nature. Fish, baby fish, ducks and ducklings, geese and goslings. Lovely to see the aqueduct stunning views, great to see the locks. Stunning views. A lovely walk.

Walk the full flight and reflect how these were made with no hydraulic cranes, power tools or modern logistics. Reflect on the fact that baring a little maintenance they still function after 200 years and then look at contemporary construction; Cheapest tender and who cares after 30 years.......

Not far from the town centre is this fascinating example of canal engineering. The locks, bridges, warehouse and aqueduct are well worth a visit, in good weather

A nice afternoon when you have nothing else planned. In dry weather there is plenty to look at and a few good walks on on off the canal banks. Even better, it’s all free

It all depends on where you want to start, wether down hill near to the ringers pub,or upwards from station road, either way its a lovely stroll, with many views over mellor and marple bridge,as well as the locks, the old mill house, the memorial park etc,and a good thirty minutes or so walk depending on how mobile you are, buses during the day are frequent to the centre of marple ,and its a five/six minute walk to the canal entrance opposite the ring o bells pub, that leads to the top locks, there are also pay and display car parks near by in marple centre.

We walk down the canal and up to top lock daily. It’s so clean and well maintained. There are picnic benches every so often where you can relax and watch the world go by! Great place to walk dogs too with ‘dog poo’ bins along the way! Nice to watch the barges especially when using the locks.
