- Dream393512323051 contributionAbsolute perfection!!AIM Snowsports were absolutely amazing!! JP managed to take 3 complete beginners (6, 9 and 40-something...) from putting on skis all the way through to medium and hard blue runs in 3 lessons. His patience and ability to keep the kids engaged and interested through different games was excellent and he was inspirational to us making progress. Can't want to come back and have a guided tour through the mountains. Would have rated 6 out of 5 if that was possible!!Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 31, 2023
- Rachael S4 contributionsGreat experience with a patient and knowledgeable instructor.Had a lesson with JP today - it was excellent. He's really patient and took the time to break down and explain each drill in terms of why I was doing it and what area of my skiing he was looking for me to improve. Definitely pushed me but in a nice way. I'll be booking again on my return to Les Arcs. Highly recommended if you want to ski better.Visited February 2024Traveled soloWritten February 6, 2024
- McDonalds5 contributionsAwesome instructor JP!This was our 12 year old daughter’s second week with JP. He is absolutely brilliant. He is an excellent teacher, we cannot thank him enough for giving her confidence in her skiing. Worth every penny. Highly, highly recommendVisited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 13, 2024
- Charlie P5 contributionsAmazing lessons, filled us with confidence.JP was a fantastic teacher! My group of friends were all relative beginners to slightly intermediate skiers. Over 3 mornings we went from nervous on the slopes, to confidently skiing red runs and having a great time. JP is a patient teacher who fills you with confidence. Great chat and funny jokes. Would highly recommend to anyone of any ability. Will book in next time! Thanks JP!Visited February 2024Traveled with friendsWritten February 27, 2024
- Sally P9 contributionsAmazing off piste instructor. My off piste lesson with JP was absolutely fantastic! I felt safe throughout yet very much pushed to be my best. He gave me great tips on dealing with different types of snow/terrain, and supported me tackling everything we faced. Can’t wait to go back.Visited March 2024Traveled soloWritten March 17, 2024
- Ben H2 contributionsA Fantastic Introduction to SkiingI started the week as an absolute beginner and JP was fantastic at introducing me to skiing. The rate of guidance and feedback was such that I didn’t ski a metre without being given something to work on, but I was never overloaded with information. He always made sure to explain why we were working on things, as well as just what to do. Helping me to understand the mechanics of skiing means that I can begin to evaluate my own skiing away from the lesson - I am more able to recognise and correct any mistakes, which is something that I have found really rewarding. I absolutely loved the lessons, would recommend to anyone who wants to improve and learn more about their own skiing!Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 23, 2024
- Imo B17 contributionsPerfect for any level of skiing abilityFantastic week! I had skied around 4/5 weeks before, so had some foundation to my skiing. However, JP dramatically improved my confidence and ability, down slopes I wouldn’t have attempted before. He was very specific and clear about what aspects of my skiing I needed to improve and gave tailored activities to each aspect I needed to include. I would really recommend JP for any level of teaching!Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 23, 2024
- Michelle MLeeds, United Kingdom5 contributionsJP Ski lessons - Amazing !!We had a weeks worth of one to one lessons with JP in Vallandry/Paradski for our 8yr old daughter. He was WONDERFUL … can not praise him or the company enough… brilliant at what he does, fun, engaging and nothing was too much trouble. Our daughter had an absolute ball EVERY DAY and her skiing came on immensely. Thank you JP. See you next season!!Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 27, 2024
- JulianW41Manchester, United Kingdom4 contributionsAnother awesome week with JP!JP has got to be the ‘go to’ instructor when visiting Les Arcs, he has taught my son from the age of 5 and now at 10 years he is doing black runs confidentially. JP is continuously coaching, reviewing, giving feedback and most importantly building confidence, rather than merely asking you to follow him down a slope. Thanks JP, Alex says you’re the best ski instructor he has ever had!Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 4, 2024
- Sarah CLondon, United Kingdom3 contributionsBest ski instructor in Les ArcsWe absolutely loved our ski lessons with John Paul and learnt so much. We booked 3 hours with him every morning in Les Arcs 1950. He is a clear, experienced and patient instructor and so kind and thoughtful, making sure each of us were ok/ warm enough/ happy. We are a family of 4 with different levels which is pretty challenging but John Paul managed it brilliantly and we all improved alot. Already planning when we can book him again!Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 4, 2024

Fantastic. JP is the first off piste guide to give me really good technical skiing advice - which has really improved my skiing. I have taken guides for 25 years or so and I only wish I’d found JP sooner. He also found great snow in challenging conditions. Thoroughly recommend to anyone of any ability.

Our children (13 and 9) had a week's lessons with JP and absolutely loved it. They were buzzing at the end of every lesson and really enjoyed every minute. They were absolute beginners at the start of the week and made amazing progress by the end of the last lesson - the kind of progress it took us weeks of ski school to make!
The kids said: "he took us for great hot chocolate, he was very patient and told us interesting things about the mountains. He took us on a lot of exciting runs".
Thanks for a great week JP - we'll be back as soon as we can.

Complete beginner
3 hours with JP gave me the ability to confidently ski under control whilst enjoying the flow of the turns.
My only previous experience was 2 years ago when I went skiing for my first time in Andorra, with no instruction, resulting in a badly damaged knee.
JP's ability to transfer his knowledge in a way I can understand made it very easy to progress.
Really nice guy too. 10/10 would recommend. Had a lot of fun.
Also Arc 2000 Is a great place to learn by e looks of it. Nice and wide runs

This is the third consecutive year I have had instruction with JP and AIM Snowsports. Another great experience with some wonderful skiing. His teaching approach is just right - done with humour and in a relaxed fashion. He also gave some additional tuition to my teenage daughter and helped with video for her GCSE PE! I would whole heartedly recommend him as an instructor.

I spent 4 days days skiing with JP with a group of 5 friends. It is the second year in a row we have JP as our instructor. He is very patient, very innovative when it comes to customizing his teaching technique to each individual's needs and he is very flexible through-out the duration of the classes on what to focus on and where to go.
Both last year and this year JP has helped me to improve my technique and I can now really enjoy skiing. I am not an easy person when it comes to learning (especially when my husband is in the same group) and despite that JP has helped to feel more in control and overcome my fears.
See you next year JP and thank you for one more amazing ski trip!!

AIM Snowsports were an absolute pleasure to deal with from start to finish. John-Paul provided separate private lessons to my two boys and my wife, all skiing beginners.
JP was a model of calm, patience, kindness and teaching excellence. He encouraged everybody and focused on one thing at a time, letting them practice and steadily improve without constant instructions or criticism (unlike some other teaching styles). All three steadily grew in confidence and ability under his watchful eye. By the end of the week, they were doing parallel turns and happy to ski red runs.
It is hard to overestimate the impact of a fantastic teacher. You can see why JP also trains other instructors. He has a gift. Thank you, John-Paul!

Like to go of piste with a guide. Group 7 persons. Week 17/3 - 24/3. Just one day. If snow conditions are ok?

The snow conditions are incredibly good right now. Please email us or call on 0131 618 7210 and we can organise something for you.

At what age do children have to be to go to ski school. We are taking 4 year old twins and my daughter thought she read somewhere that they have to be 5 years old.
Written January 22, 2018
Hi Carol,
It depends on the ski school really. Big ski schools like the ESF and Evolution 2 have their own private teaching areas for small children, known as a jardin enfants. This is the ideal controlled environment for children that age. A better alternative is an indoor ski centre in the UK such as Hemel Snowcentre where they will be taught by a native English speaker which will hopefully add to their enjoyment.
We are a small number of Independant instructors that offer private lessons. There is no age restriction but it is difficult to teach more than one small child on a public slope.
Kind regards
John-Paul McCarthy
