Setenil is one of those charming white villages near Ronda. Down at the bottom of the village, the houses are built into the cliffsides. In places the ceilings and back walls are the cliff and the cliff hangs right over the road between 2 rows of houses for a short section. It looks really pretty but I would suggest it is one village where it is best to park on the outskirts of town and have a lovely walk around. We wound up having to back up a narrow curved road, up a hill to be able to get out. It was quite nerve wracking.

Our visit to Setenil was fantastic, and the beautiful Church of the Incarnation was a hit with both the adults and kids. We were only there a few minutes, but the space inside was very impressive.

The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnacion is located at the Calle de la Villa andwas built in 1505 by Friar Diego de Deza. Later it was rebuilt by Pedro Diaz de Palacios in the 17th century and work stopped on it in 1614. The church has a late Gothic design. The church conserves many valuable images, such as the Crucified Christ (16th century), a main altar from the late 5th century which shows scenes from the life of Christ, and a chasuble that was used in the first mass in the church and that was a gift from the Catholic Kings. There are other very valuable items used for worship.

A simple place of worship and historic to the town. Adornment came from the altar. Interior was white, like the town. Good point of departure for the exploration

It's wonderful to see how the tiny Spanish villages have preserved their history and architecture, showing respect for the beauty of the past. The church is a simple and tranquil holy place.
