My wife and I decided to try something we always wanted to do on our wedding anniversary this year so we booked a day sail with Captain Gordon aboard his sail boat the Cuna Mar. It was an absolutely beautiful day to spend on the water as we sailed out of St. Peters Inlet towards Bras d’Or Lake. Along the way the Captain filled us in on the history of the area, as well as taught us the basics of sailing. After a four hr sail we stopped at a beautiful little cove for lunch and had a great time listening to stories of the Captains sailing adventures around the world. He has a wonderful sense of humour and made sure everyone had a chance to help sail if they wished. On our way back to St. Peters the wind came up a bit so we got a real good taste of what sailing is like. What fun we had. Captain Gordon certainly knows how to sail and had a smile on his face the whole time. I’d recommend this adventure to anyone interested in an exciting day sailing.

My friends and I had the pleasure of joining Captain Gordon Kerr (Cap’t G) from Richmond Adventure Planning on his sailboat, Cu Na Mara to sail around the Bras d’Or Lakes. Cap’t G couldn’t have been a better host…..a very seasoned sailor and very knowledgeable about the area. We opted for the 6 hour sailing tour, about 3 hours in we stopped for lunch and a very refreshing swim in a lovely cove. Throughout the day, Captain G told us about the history of the area. We had perfect sunny weather (my sunburn will tell you how hot it was that day), great winds for sailing and lots of laughs…all in all a perfect day!!!
If you’d like to spend a day sailing, I highly recommend contacting Captain G at Richmond Adventure Planning Sailboat Tours. Besides being an expert sailor and a very lovely person, Captain Kerr is extremely professional and accommodating. A few days before our scheduled trip we had to change our initial party of 4 to a party of 3 as one girl couldn’t come with us. Captain Kerr understood completely and promptly refunded her fees.
We actually enjoyed it so much we may make it an annual outing!!

My husband and I loved our sailing day with Gordon! We did the 6 hour, full-day trip from 10am to 4pm. This is a family run business so you meet Gordon at his home to get on his boat from his dock. Gordon was a very capable sailor, we were so impressed by how he 'read the wind' and handled the boat. Gordon was a good teacher and my husband, who had never sailed before, did a good bit of the sailing! We had a beautiful day on the Bras D'or lake. We brought lunch with us and Gordon brought some of his homemade salsa and pickles to share with us. Would highly recommend this adventure to anyone looking to learn more about sailing and looking to enjoy a day on the water!

If you're looking for an experience that helps you feel connected to the local community, while appreciating nature and experiencing the uniqueness of Cape Breton - you'll be very happy sailing with Captain Kerr!

My 2 travel mates, their 13-month old and I enjoyed a last minute historical canal tour with RAP. We arrived to a personal abode/backyard dock launch, and Gord's calm & confident demeanour to greet us - it really set the tone for feeling both comfortable and excited upon arrival, like we were walking onto a friends sailboat.

Stories and history naturally sprinkled into the tour, my biggest takeaway was our Captain's humble demeanour as he shared what incredible initiatives he and his partner have initiated and maintained in the region, a glimpse into the care and pride that RAP offers in a humble and genuine way.

I can't wait to do the full day in the future and to tell friends to sail this region, too!
Wonderful and absolutely worthwhile.

On a perfect summer sailing day, we had the pleasure of spending 3 hours with Captain Gordon on the Bras d'Or Lake. With the patience of a 'saint', he addressed endless questions on the art of sailing from two inexperienced first timers. Captain Gordon was very knowledgeable on the history and points of interest as we cruised along. We especially enjoyed the peacefulness that sailing offers. Needless to say, it was a very memorable experience that we hope to do again. Jeannine/Annie

Although we live on Lake Huron, we've never been sailing!
We opted for a 3 hr morning sail adventure with Captain Kerr while visiting CBI. The hour drive from Sydney was picturesque, pre-ordered picnic lunch from Louie's in St Peters, which was fabulous and boarded the Captains sailboat. The weather was perfect and our Captain was really great to explain all about his boat, safety protocols and show us the route we were embarking on.
This was a beautiful tour of the St Peters Inlet, the history of this region is fascinating and the stories were great. Captain Kerr is a very experienced sailor teaching us a lot and catching some fabulous wind on the way home for a real adventure!
We had a great time and would definitely do this again.
Your in very capable hands with Captain Kerr so don't hesitate to take this daytrip.

It was so easy (from booking to disembarking), relaxed and fun filled. Gordon was so easy going, knowledgeable and humorous. A 6 hour sail had us in little harbour for a moor, swim and snack before the tack back. The perfect way to wrap up summer of 2020.

Gordon is an amazing captain and is so hospitable. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip and it was amazing! Ann Marie was also so so wonderful. We shared lunch, and upon knowing that I like spicy food he hand-picked a few chilli peppers from his garden. I will never forget their kindness and thoughtfulness. It was one of the best days I ever had! I would highly recommend booking with them. You won’t regret it!

Excellent all day tour. Gordon is an experienced sailor and taught us a lot about sailing. We did the 10:00 - 4:00 tour which was so wonderful. So wonderful to experience the Bras D'or Lakes on the water. Highly recommend.

Our day on the water with Gordon of Richmond Adventure Planning was a highlight of our trip to Cape Breton Island. It truly was like spending a day on the water with a friend. We learned about the history of Chapel Island National Historic Site, the canal, and the St. Peter’s area in general. There were also options for lunch and swimming. Can’t wait to go again!
