One of the Fuji five lakes, Yamanaka Lake offers wonderful views of Fuji-San and is one of the closest view points of Mount Fuji. The lake is also famous for the Diamond Fuji. Me and my Friend visited the place in February 2017. Access to Lake - From Tokyo (Shinjuku) , we took the highway express bus to Yamakanako and... More

After disappointing weather, it was at Lake Yamanaka, where we could finally see Mt. Fuji, on our way back to Gotemba from lake Kawaguchiko. We did not do the boating as the weather was bad.

We were there for the weekend during the diamond fuji festival and got lucky that the skies were clear (although it was cloudy during the sunset, so we didn't get to see the diamond fuji). However, this really is the best lake to see Mt. Fuji from. The mountain looked so close, and walking along the sidewalk with Fuji in... More

A truly spectacular lake in the Mt Fuji area. Don't miss the platform viewing area. We were lucky to get a bluesky day and it was amazing.

We visited Lake Yamanaka for autumn colour leaves on 7 Nov. A Super clear day where we could see Mt Fuji. Colours here have turned and we could see more red and orange colours here compared to Lake Kawaguchi. A nice place to visit for autumn colors and a view of Mt Fuji.

It's one of the five lakes where we can have a view of Mt. Fuji, however, it needs to be a clear sunny day for that. There's lot of options for water sports such as boating, kayaking or bike rental around the river. Lots of guesthouse, hotels around the lake and Mt. Fuji is just 50 mins drive away. I... More

A good place to visit, you can also rent a bicycle for half an hour--which is not enough to circle the lake.

Lake Yamanaka or Yamanaka- in Japanese is the largest of the Fuji great 5 lakes. Even though Yamanaka-ko is the largest Lake it is not the most built up (that's Kawaguchi-ko). As such there is more unspoilt lake side but still offers a lot to do (boating/fishing/festivals). Definitely worth a visit even if not accessible by train.
