This is very ancient place than you think, more than 2300 years old. This belongs to King Kavanthissa era. This is where load buddhas fore head relic was and one tooth relic is placed. Arround this place you may see such similar ancient places with ruins.

A must see place. The Tissamaharama Raja Maha Vihara is an ancient Buddhist temple in Tissamaharama, Southern Province of Sri Lanka. It was one of the four major Buddhist monasteries established in Sri Lanka, after the arrival of Arhant Mahinda Thera to the country.

This is second time I've visited here, the last time about 5 or 6 years ago.Its a decent walk from the hotel where I'm staying but worth the trek. There are a view temples with in short reach of each other which makes it easy as you can walk from one to the other.I'm always astounded by the the serene beauty and the imposing elegance of these temples.
Well worth a visit.

Tissamaharama Stupa is the largest stupa in the Southern region of the country with a height of 156 feet and 550 feet in circumference. Originally built over 2000 years ago it has deteriorated and been renovated many times in its history and now stands proudly in the town as part of a larger complex.
