About
The Museum is housed in one of the oldest buildings in Milford Haven. Designed by Swansea architect, Jernigan, it was built in 1797 for the storage of whale oil awaiting transhipment for sale in London. Milford Haven has been connected with a number of industries – fishing, Quaker whaling from 1790s, which led to the whale oil industry and more recently the modern oil industry. It has also played an important role during the two World Wars, when it was a convoy assembly point for mine-sweeping. The Museum collection reflects all of these aspects of the town’s history, but focuses particularly on the maritime history. The Museum is a completely voluntarily run museum. It is currently re-constructing its management structure, but it currently consists of the Treasurer, Administrator and Curator. The museum is mainly funded by the Milford Haven Town Council, and the current mayor of Milford Haven is our Trust ex-chairman. The Museum is also supported by other organisations, such as Milford Haven Port Authority and South Hook LNG. The Museum currently holds an accredited status which is awarded by CyMAL.

This is an excellent local history museum housed in one of the oldest buildings on the Milford Haven waterfront.
Very informative dispalys on a wide avriety of topics - the early Quaker settlers from Nantucket, the ship-building and fishery industry, the oil refinery etc. The staff were knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and very friendly.

Lovely place to get historical information. Staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. Children enjoyed the brass rubbings of fish, boats and whales. Activity leaflet for children was free, and focused on finding historical facts from the museum which my eldest especially enjoyed. Local books and children range in shop, along with some local craft. Very pleasant place to spend an hour or so.

Lovely little museum, however full of great information on the history of Milford Haven. Would recommend a visit to while away a few hours. Have handsets (with various languages) included in price which doesn’t bring a great deal of additional information, as there is lots of written information along the way. I must admit I was surprised the write-ups were not in Welsh as well as English!

This Museum is very much worth a visit, we took our grandson and he was very interested in much of the items and after reading about some of the exhibits asked some very good questions. The exhibits are good and you either have to read or listen to the information. When we visited we were lucky enough to talk with one of the members of staff whom had plenty of knowledge about the exhibits and he was happy to take the time to pass on his knowledge and spend a good time with us discussing about the exhibits and his life in connection with the museum. Everything was great about the visit, can not find a fault with it at all. Loved it.

Thank you for your kind review. It is great to hear that your grandson enjoyed the visit, and tested our volunteers knowledge with some questions. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

This small maritime museum is tucked away at the harbour there are no signs directing you to it
but it is very interesting and passes away an hour especially if it is raining. The history is fascinating and I would certainly recommend a visit if you are in the area. The two ladies who are volunteers are very friendly and informative and made you very welcome also the gentleman must not forget him who told us the story about the family of whalers. A small fee of £2 on entrance but well worth it.

I took my grandson here during half term, the staff were brilliant and took us on a guided tour. They showed my grandson how to to the range of brass rubbings, and then letting him colour in drawings talking him through the relevant history as he worked.
The history of Milford Haven was revealed from the Stone Age to the present day.
So much to see so allow plenty of time for your visit.

This little museum is tucked away down by the marina and well worth seeking out. The history of this area is fascinating, all the whaling and oil industry. Very cheap too, so a good hour or so!

A really thorough look at the (relatively short) history of Milford Haven. This takes you from its founding in 1790 to the present. Lots of attention given to the fish trade at the docks, the oil industry, and whaling. This museum was established in the early 1990's, and although some of the exhibits now look a little dated, they do a wonderful job with what I expect are small resources. Wonderful collections of photos and and plans of the town for the visitor with a keen eye and a fondness for the town. Good disabled access, with a stair lift for the access to the first floor. Very reasonable entry fee.

This is a wonderful museum down on the docks.
It covers the nautical and social history of MH from late 18th century up to late 20th.Even if your not a maritime buff this is worth a look.
Whaling, WW2 ,fishing and the oil industry are all represented by models, videos and artifacts ranging from harpoons, sea mines, shipwrights tools and even a butchers bike! The model ships are outstanding.
