    Ok for 1 night
We stayed in the TRADITIONAL part of the hotel not the new side. Rooms was very traditional but was let down by the fact the previous occupants had obviously smoked in the room flicking their ash out the 3 inch gap with the windows open. Unfortunately the room smelt quite badly of cigarette smoke. Was offered another room but they wanted £100 for the privilege. We declined so the sent house keeping to sort out, lovely lady who cleared all the ash away and sprayed air freshener and lodged the window open with towels to air the room. Wasn’t impressed with the drinks prices. I would say London prices but can’t because London drinks prices were cheaper when recently there. Food was good couldn’t fault it. Comfortable beds but very hot room.

Lovely venue with atmosphere & felt welcome by sociable staffs.
We had our first meal out since Lockdown. Chose this venue due to previously good service & food. Not disappointed! The staff were attentive & polite. The food we chose as main course was beef bouguignon with honey glazed root vegetables & creamed potatoes. Beautiful! Sat in the new part of this old hotel complex watching the main road traffic across a newly constructed car park. Impressed to say the least. At this time loyalty cards do not give the usual discount. Excellent pint of John Smiths. Good selection & variety of draught beers. A good experience. Can highly recommend. To reassure readers all health & safety measures met our expectations. Thank you.

    Very smart
The staff were very well spoken, smart and attentive. The room was spotless, large, and comfortable. The food was excellent and served in a unique way :) Exceeded my expectations, and made for a very restful overnight stop. My only very slight gripe, would be the lack of a good working space in the room due to the chairs being so low.

Wow Romany it's fantastic what a difference. Called in for lunch with my wife and he greeted us and presented lots of seating options. Then came back after we had drinks and discussed the menus, helped us select some new choices. He is a star, the best thing we have seen in the restaurant. Food was great but he checked in on it to make sure, happy customers and we will be back soon.

Try not to stay too long in this Hotel, I was there last night 9/8/13 and the drinks, especially the cocktails on the list, were terrible with £6.50 for a glass full to the brim with Ice and lemon squeezed by hand, after handling money and a little squirt of Coke that couldnt get past the ice to mix. Astraw that vanished due to not being long enough and the drink in the end tasting of water.
The actual room where I purchased the drink from smelt terrible, dare I say of urine, I had to hold my breath to walk through it.
The only nice thing I saw was a huge concrete Great Dane placed outside the main doors.

I booked for the Michael Buble tribute night at Van Dyk's on December 5th 2012. Total cost was £180.00 for four tickets. The hotel reduced the price of four tickets for the night by £10.00 per ticket around two weeks before the 5th. I therefore requested a refund of £40.00 or a £40.00 table credit on the night. I was told by the rather unhelpful manager that this was not their policy.
Therefore, I recommend that anyone who wishes to go to a tribute night at Van Dyk's to wait until the last minute to get a better price per ticket.
The Buble performer was also more like Vic Reeves doing the pub singer from Shooting Stars!
The whole experience was a complete disaster and the manager is not one bit bothered. you can see that she isn't with her responses to other complaints.
She will be pleased to know I will not be visiting again or recommending Van Dyk's to anyone.
