Thaxted is a very pretty village and has plenty of pretty places of note.....we managed to locate this windmill about a 5 minute walk up a narrow road/lane behind the high street with the intention of going in...sadly not to be as it was closed.....we only managed a photo stop on this occasion but we will return.....

The walk to windmill takes you past thatched little cottages. The most picturesque church in Essex .
The walk is over mostly flat land .
The windmill it’s self is stunning with views over the local fields.
A must visit place if your in Thaxted.

What an absolute find!! We had gone up to the windmill in the morning to find out that it was only open in the afternoon. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that it was free admission - I had mentally put £5-6 each aside for it.
It is packed full of interesting artefacts relating both to milling and to the local industries and farming practices in and around Thaxted.
The only thing to consider is that small children and those with mobility issues will find going up the steep ladder-like steps impossible to go up.
We went late afternoon and so only had an hour or so there - I could have spent much longer.
A big thank you to the volunteers who keep the place running!

Thaxted is a beautifull little village woth a great history and some stunning old fashioned architecture.
You could get up really close to the windmill and there was plenty of imformation on its history.
Well worth a visit

This is a very nice Windmill, set in the grounds close to the village center. From here you have a nice countryside views.

I can only concur with other reviews of the Mill. It is the walk there that is also most interesting, thatched cottages and a step back in time. Mill near the church is in excellent condition, sadly closed but I have booked to stay at The Swan again and hopefully get inside.

This lovely windmill is just behind the large church in the pretty Suffolk village of Thaxted. You can do an easy short walk around the interesting old village, that includes a Guildhall on the high street. The Windmill is on the edge of the village, with views out to the open countryside and has plenty of benches there to sit on. There was a sign saying it’s open Sunday afternoons during the summer.

Not only can you look at a working windmill you can go inside and view thee history of Thaxted. The rolling hills provides the prefect backdrop for this perfect part of British history.
