Tolerate the ambiguity - not a scrapyard - a museum of memories
Oct 2021 • Friends
I was brought to Cae Dai 1950’s Museum for a birthday treat.
My first reaction was that it’s was some sort of joke. Scrap, a rusting car, a row of what looked like old washing machines in front of me and chickens, so tame that they clucked and pecked around my feet.
I swallowed hard and tried to look as if I was enjoying myself. In we went and I was transported into another world. Memories of my childhood came zooming in as I surveyed the artefacts. These are difficult to catalogue and curate but there were themes of a sort. I could hear 50’s American Rock n Roll in the background and I shed over 60 years as I remembered stuffing 3d pieces on the jukebox at our local cafe. Turn a corner and there was our old Bush wireless, cheek by jowl was a Dansette Record Player. Toys, cigarette cards, cocktail cabinets, a Ford Popular in exactly the same finish as mine - my first car. What an eclectic jumble of items. Cae Dai is on my list for a revisit - maybe a couple!

Hidden gem

Fantastic place to visit.
Hidden away in Denbigh. So much history in there.
It was like reliving my youth round at my grandmas

A must visit for all the family

A history of the 50s and more

Wow! What a fascinating place with so much to look at! Wonderful artefacts from a bygone age. From cars to kitchens, from the great train robbery to music and sports memorabilia-everything is here. A fantastic place to visit just outside Denbigh. A MUST for everyone.
A cafe on-site and lovely people running the place with stories to tell.

A visit to the past over a wide range of topics including a vehicle used in the great train robbery.
It is not in the location marked on satnav and we almost gave up. For those with what 3 words the words are

Better from the inside.

A really interesting museum.
Ignore the outside of the site, that needs a good sort out. But inside it’s full of memories for anyone above the age of 40. The older you are the more memories it will stimulate.

Coffee and tea, £0.50 a cup from the little cafe.

Entree fee of £5.00 not too expensive for a couple of hours of of looking.

Lovely quaint museum in the heart of the countryside

Fantastic museum. It was like stepping into a time warp, taking me back to my grandparents house. Not your standard museum but packed full of interesting exhibits. I would recommend for 10’s and over as little ones might get bored. My 11 year old is a car buff and loved the old cars. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area!

A surprising Gem

Not many people know about this museum, which is a shame because it is jam packed with interesting stuff. It's a serious museum and well worth a visit.

What a little gem fantastic afternoon looking at all the artefacts from the 1950s what a lovely man sparrow is willing to chat and inform you about all the things in the museum he is very approachable and very friendly 😊

Mixed feelings
The museum itself is ok very messy and needs a good clean.
The outside is very untidy with rats running around.
We had taken sandwiches for lunch sat at a table
And then seen rats freely running around.
Not really one for reviews but after seeing the owner sparrow shouting at a man right in front of us that’s not the best look.
The poor boy was very upset by this.
I wouldn’t return or recommend sorry
Maybe you need to have a good clean up

Excellent quirky museum
Jun 2021 • Friends
An excellent idiosyncratic & wide-ranging and at many times quirky collection providing an insight into the 1950s. Sparrow added his personal insights with genuine warmth & enthusiasm. Although broadly curated by themes, the vastness of the collection defies the “neatness” of many museums creating a visit full of surprises. Excellent value for money as so much to see - and afterwards I’d recommend a wander to the idyllic riverside rural campsite (we weren’t staying but public footpath leads through it).
