I read on FB the spa etc has been upgraded, one could sign up for a special deal for a year. Over a year since I last went so booked a tour. Explained I had been attending for some years, been a member but let it lapse due to the poor conditions, lack of hygiene and cleanliness.

Went up to the gym, now only 1 bike and one treadmill ‘but they are getting more’ apparently. A new area for the weight room. Old weight room is being transformed into a studio. It was painted, brighter and cleaner.

Went down to the pool area, which has had a great upgrade, looks fabulous and is spotless. I went to look in the steam room but as I went to open the door the handle was full of dirt and fluff – I have horses and and muck out stables so not that fussy, but YUK. Then opened the door to the ladies changing room – the old familiar smell of damp and dirty nappies hit me, the floor still had water standing all over as it did 12 months ago, and some had turned to mud in the doorway, YUK. Lots of the locker keys still don’t have a wrist band so where is one supposed to put that key when swimming in the pool? I would also bet that one of the ladies loo doors still sticks and and won't close properly.....

Went for a tour to see if interested in joining, we were shown the pool which looked nice, and the gym which looked very tired and very lacking and then the weight room which looked very bad and old. Now when this was advertised as a free tour we thought we would at least be offered to try the facilities to entice us to join. Nothing offered but wanted to tie us into a 3 year deal to have the special offer. Other than it was nice pool, I don't know how the changing rooms looked or anything else that would be on offer too. The guy who was with us was very good to tell us costs but that was all. All other establishments I have gone to about joining have offered a.tour and to try the equipment before you make a decision to enter into a contract which has time.constraints. This is not worth the money even discounted for a glorified small swimming pool, because the gym looks crap!, and if more than a few people in the pool would be very crowded and not a pleasurable time. We will take our chances at our local pool in Rushden, which offers a gym also and a membership which is not tied into.

Climbing - not really worth it to be honest! I purchased a voucher off groupon for Christmas. Firstly it was difficult to book as it wouldn’t do it through groupon online and I spent ages on hold each time I called. The voucher and when booking no one was clear that it was only 30minute session, however that is all you would need as the wall is tiny. We had to share our visit as one of the climbing ropes is broken so there was 4 people and only 3 available spaces to which no one informed us of until we had our harnesses on. We were told to arrive 15 minutes early for a safety briefing but the instructor/supervisor did not arrive until the time of the climb. The walls are pretty boring and not very challenging. I wouldn’t recommend and say go somewhere else with better facilities.

We booked a surfing party for my daughter and 17 of her friends for her 8th birthday. The party also included pre-ordered hot food and unlimited squash. When we arrived, we felt as though we weren’t expected or welcome. The party area was not ready for us. The surfing instructor was fantastic. She made the birthday girl feel special (unlike literally every other member of staff) and made the nervous surfers feel reassured. Other than that, the experience was dire. They were clearly short staffed (a sign of the times, I appreciate, but the staff that were available, were, for the most part sullen, sarcastic, uncaring and clearly very fed up). The food was late being served (to the point where parents were turning up to collect their kids while the food was being dished out. I realised after paying the final balance that the girls hadn’t been served their pudding. I wrote a long email to the manager, expressing my overall dissatisfaction. I eventually got a call from her, three days later which I couldn’t answer. I tried calling her back and leaving messages for nearly two further days before she finally got back to me. She offered me a paltry refund for the lack of dessert, which did not take in to account the poor service or late food. Eventually we agreed on a refund which took a further two days to come back to me. Overall, I paid a lot of money for a party which, other than the main activity, was a total damp squib, and the aftercare I received, following my complaint was atrocious. I feel like they just wanted my money, and then couldn’t care less about me or my repeat custom / recommendations to my friends and family.

Final thoughts; Do the activities, keep the instructors in a job, but don’t expect anything from the rest of the staff. Go somewhere else for your food and drink!

Booked an On-line Escape Room (Morse Code) for 8.00pm today. Received a message this morning saying that the 8.00pm slot was double booked mistakenly by them - offering 6.30pm as an alternative or to move the booking to a future date. This wouldn’t work for us so asked for a refund due to the mistake, only to be told that all bookings are non-refundable. Given this was your mistake, this stance is totally unacceptable. Asked twice on email today to have the refund confirmed but received no response.

Beware of this company. After travelling for 2.5 hours and receiving 3 phone calls from them changing the time we were contacted again just 10 minutes away from the venue and told it was cancelled! The girl told me that we could receive a refund and after sending 3 emails I have received no response or refund. My 13 year old was extremely disappointed he couldn’t enjoy his Christmas present. Don’t waste your money, they obviously can’t be trusted.

We just finished the Morse Code virtual escape room and it was excellent. We didn't know what to expect but we had a full briefing, including a video we could watch before. Four of us played, with two screen passes, and although we weren't sure how it would work with giving instructions, the game flowed really well.
Special mention to our amazing avatar Dave (Tara...), whose personality shone through and really made the game enjoyable.
Would definitely recommend!!

Gave this a punt as fancied an escape room without the fear of being in an actual one at this time. The hosts were really up to entertain us and 'Alan' was our trooper and led us through the bunker with glee. There are many surprises on offer and if you're nice your trooper may do some exercises and dress up for you- all helps with morale. We managed to solve our missions within 40 minutes. A great time for us. Certainly would recommend this to anyone. Be nice to actually get to skydive too.

Took my 4 and 7 year old to the surfing and although I was apprehensive as the water is very fast, they had the most amazing time. Their coach Cameron did an fantastic job of looking after them in terms of bodyboarding with them so they got a great few really run rides but then helping them get into position before letting them go solo. He even helped them with standing up but didn’t let them go as the force of the water would have just taken them. They did get cold as the wetsuits were too big (they were the smallest they had) so didn’t keep them warm and the temperature of the room wasn’t hot either so they didn’t last the hour which was their allocated time as over 6 people. Despite this, I would wholly recommend this experience.
