We spent four hours here learning about the birds from very knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff and had the most amazing experience of handling a Magnificent Golden Eagle.
Then we watched different birds fly from the arena It was superb to see the Peregrine Falcon dissapear into the sky for a good 15 minutes before returning at incredible speed when called by the handler.
The BOP visit and Afternoon Tea at the nearby Burn Hall Hotel was purchased online for £19 thats for two people by the way highly recommended just book it you won't be dissapointed especially if you go on a nice day as we did.

We were extremely fortunate to get entry due to staying at a nearby hotel, which allowed us to have the owl experience at a lower price. Andrew and Claire are friendly and welcoming, with a humour which makes you feel like you've known them for ages. The birds (of which there are over 100) are well cared for, and there are so many opportunities to handle them, whether it's by doing the experiences (multiple owls or a walk with a Harris Hawk) or during the interactive daily shows. The staff - who are all volunteers - are so knowledgeable and enthusiastic, without being overbearing or boring! We had the owl experience with Michael, who was fantastic, as well as his 15 year old son Charlie whose knowledge and passion is a joy to see. We went back the following day to do a Halk Walk with Ranulph, a Harris Hawk, and Billy, whose passion and knowledge also shine through. If you haven't done this yet, rectify that as soon as possible, you will not be disappointed!

Book this as presents for all your friends and family:
Carbon neutral, not land fill, gives heaps of great memories and contributes to saving endangered species WNTL??

I booked my daughter here for a 1/2 day owl experience last Saturday.
We were treated to an amazing display of flying from a range of different birds.
There were 5 (6?) staff members helping deliver the display, the main man was hugely informative, and funny, and easy to listen to. The rest of the team were alert, calm and helpful - allowing members of the public to wear the leather glove while a bird landed on their hand!
We all learn so much about these fascinating species, esp important educational stuff about habitat loss, captive breeding programs etc.
After the display, a member of staff, Mike, gave lots of his time to letting my daughter handle a range of owls (and a beautiful Harris hawk), the rest of us were allowed to accompany them and Mike told us lots of great stories, facts and info about the birds.
All the birds appeared to be in excellent health, they had suitable accommodation, access to water, shelter etc. And the staff (ALL VOLUNTEERS!!!) are clearly passionate about caring for the birds. The birds are regularly flown, and I have absolute confidence in the welfare of the animals at YBofPC.
We will def be back - maybe a Hawk Walk next time :)
(YBofP maybe get an ice cream & lolly freezer?)

This is a must visit attraction. We got free entry due to staying at Burn Hall Hotel so we thought we would have a quick look when it opened at 10.30am before we headed off for the day. Once inside we were blown away by the extensive number of birds living here but also realised they do free flying displays. The owner is incredibly knowledgeable (his ‘Dad’ jokes are actually very funny) and he makes the free flying very interactive with the audience. Our quick look lasted 2 and a half hours! We loved it. BTW we enjoyed it so much we donated the entry fee.

Amazing day out , was so much more than what we expected the website does not do it justice . From start to finish we were entertained, educated and actively encouraged to interact with the amazing birds who live there. All the volunteers were friendly, knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble,

There were 3 shows through the day, we arrived just after 10.30am and didn't leave until 5pm , not one moment where we were not able to interact with the birds and staff during that time.

Everyone was encouraged to handle the birds , take photographs and ask as many questions as you liked.

My Grandaughter had the privilege of a Hawkwalk, our guide was Neil and we were able to spend time with the stunning Harrier Hawk Kaiser. Neil was excellent , provided us with so much information about Harrier Hawks and allowed my Grandaughter to be able to experience handling , feeding and recall.

We learnt so much whilst there and will be regular visitors from now on, entry prices are ridiculously cheap for what you get, we have decided to sponsor two of the birds, Kaiser and also Jessie the Owl to support this fantastic place.

Perfect family day but also somewhere for adults fancying a day out.

Big thank you to everyone involved

The best bit was the birds flying and the guy who was doing the doing the commentary he was so entertaining and knowledgeable you could see he just loved those birds.
Very large display of birds of Prey that they let you handle and fly.
I would recommend that you visit the morning display and you have a spot of lunch in the little cafe and stay for the afternoon display.

We purchased a Groupon for afternoon tea at the adjacent Burn Hall Hotel which included free access to the York Bird of Prey Centre – It’s worth mentioning that the centre does not receive any money from the purchase of vouchers for Burn Hall, from Groupon, Wowcher, Living Social or the like, which also include access to the centre. We left a voluntary donation after our visit which was worth every penny and very gratefully received.

Andrew, Claire and Neil were the experts at the centre who displayed and flew the birds on the day that we visited. It’s very apparent that they are passionate about what they do. They are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the birds but also so funny and entertaining (Andrew, you really should be on the stage!). The birds are incredible, so beautiful and obviously cherished and well-cared for. We were able to handle and stroke them – it was truly fantastic! There was ample opportunity to ask questions and also time to view the other birds in their aviaries. We watched 2 amazing flying displays in all and are still in awe!

The afternoon tea at Burn Hall was fresh and tasty and we were able to return back into the centre afterwards to watch the second flying display.

Parking was ample and free and the centre easy to find using SAT NAV. There aren’t adequate words to describe this truly wonderful place - please go, support and donate to this fantastic place. You won’t be disappointed.

We can’t wait to return! Thank you again.

Fantastic day. We arrived at 10.30 & were greeted by very friendly staff. All the staff took genuine time of showing us around, explaining in great detail with enthusiasm about all the birds. My husband took part in handling the birds and they involved him in the bird of prey shows too. At no point were we left unattended as the staff made sure we looked after, moving on to the next bird of prey. We had to leave at 3.30 as picking my son up but if not I'm sure we'd have been there till closing. Excellent 50th birthday present for my husband. Thankyou 😊

Fantastic experience day here at York Bird of Prey. All the Volunteers were very welcoming and made me feel like part of the family.

The day was very in depth with history of the birds and knowledge about the birds and how to look after them. This accompanied by having the opportunity to handle these wonderful animals. Even had the chance to fly a few.

The service was very bespoke and you can tell that the Vilunteers really care for the birds in their charge. Fun for people of all ages and well worth the money you pay for any type of visit.

I even managed to get a selfie with one of the grumpiness birds I have ever met, pictured left, and one of the most gentle and calm I have ever met, pictured right.

This day has encouraged to to pursue my dream of becoming a falconer and hopefully one day the opportunity to volunteer and care for these birds and show them and the staff off to others.

Thanks guys, even in the freezing cold you always aim to please. See you very soon

Sonia and I have just had the most amazing day. With the team at The York Bird of Center
We booked an Owl experience after being inspired by Robert E Fullers you tube channel.
We've been treated like VIPs, hosted by volunteers who are both passionate and knowledgeable, offered opportunities to handle and fly a range of Raptors, from Spectacle Owls, barn , tawny, Eagle owls, hawks, kestrels, and even a golden Eagle.
Demonstration flights of a huge veriety of birds, including fledgling, and adult peregrine Falcons and Hawk hunting behaviour. Almost everyone can engage and interact with the birds, with the team taking care to provide a safety brief, and guidance. What a truly wonderful experience. Thanks, to Andrew, Claire, Michael, Charlie, Andy, Kev, and the rest of the team, for making our day something to remember.
