It is the deepest canyon in Europe, and second deepest in the world after the Grand Canyon of Colorado, USA. 78km long, and up to 1.300m deep, this "tear of Europe", as it is also called, is a great natural and tourist attraction not only in the area, but in the entire country.

Anna from Summit tours (amazing lady) recommended doing the whole day trip. It was beautiful . The river is very quiet ( no adrenalin) and during the second half of the day we were the only raft on the water - surrounded by nature. The river becomes narrow and the canyon walls rise high above. It was like floating in... More

Tara River canyon is worth to visit if you are in Monte Negro. It is wild and amazing and something special. If you like adventure, there is water rafting og mount hiking with guide.

Most breathtaking canyon in this part of Europe. Great views from Djurdjevica Tara bridge, then from peak Ćurevac (on Durmitor side). Great fun for rafting, water is cristal clear, and very cold :)

We took the whole day trip which had most of the time more of a relaxing boat ride on the Tara river. Although we were well informed by the agency (!) we expected still a bit more action from a 'rafting' day (not our first time). Surely it had to do with the timing of the year. Can definately be... Very impressive. The bridge over the canyon is a project to admire! We did rafting and zipline there. Quite expensive for this country, but worthwhile.

I thought this would be something like the Mini Grand Canyon, basically this was an emerald colour river flowing amongst trees on both sides. There is a zip wire where you could zip down from one side to the other at a high altitude, but I chickened out !!

A day trip down Tara River Canyon is a great way to spend a day in Durmitor. There are options to raft for 2 hrs, 5 hrs, or a two days. I can highly recommend the 5 hr option, which gives you the opportunity to raft the deepest part of the spectacular canyon (1350 meters, second only to Grand Canyon).

Stunning nature, the canyon must be experienced from the river, where you get the best views, and the full experience of the wild nature.

Firstly let me tell you, this river is beautiful, the clearest I have ever seen and as a marine biologist I have seen a fair few! You can drink directly from it (although if there has been a heavy storm the day prior maybe not) but it's incredibly clear and tastes as fresh as one could hope for! I would... More
