- ZilfarizaAmpang, Malaysia1 contributionBeautiful mangrove cruiseI had an enjoyable ride on the Faiz 3 boat with 10 other friends. It was an incredible 2-hour cruise passing through mangrove and caves. Our boat man made sure we wore life jackets on the boat and was knowledgable about the places we visited. I enjoyed the eagles the most. Thank you Mr Boatman!Visited November 2023Traveled with friendsWritten November 17, 2023

When we visited the beach, we saw many tour vendors and didn't know which one to pick so decided to go to the official Kilim georforest park website and booked private tour and got a great deal. Two hours trip was good enough for Bat caves, crocodile cave, Andaman sea, Feeding FishVisited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 23, 2024
- gatesheadgirlie864 contributionsGreat Trip Seeing the SightsVisited the park as part of a Tui / Marella cruise trip. Amazing day, walked through a bat cave, sped down the river in boat, saw some amazing sights, not a huge amount of wildlife but were treated to monkeys and eagles. Great day and we hit really good with the weather, very clear seeing all the way to Thailand in the distance.Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 10, 2024
- MrsW007London, United Kingdom191 contributionsA must do when in LangkawiAfter seeing a number of reviews I contacted a company who offered a private 15 seat boat (we were a family of 10) for 4 hours taking in the bar cave, eagle feeding, fish feeding and snorkelling, monkey feeding in the mangroves, gorilla rock, and a swim on our own private beach. Our guide was flexible and fun. We stopped at the fish farm/restaurant on the way out to pre order our lunch and then ended the tour with our meal. Fantastic day. Highly recommend. Booked a 2hr private tour through an independent agent. Made our own way there via Grab car. Easy.
Pro’s
The experience is great.
Informative guide and pleasant nature (Joon)
Watching the Sea Eagles swop down and soar overhead was a highlight
Boat ride at speed through the river and Mangroves was exhilarating.
Lucky to ride through Crocodile cave (only possible at low water - check tides).
Con’s
On arriving at the Kilim Geoforest Park (UNESCO listed), the smell of Petrol from the outboard motors of the dozens of tour boats hits you.
The river traffic is busy with other high speed boats making it a noisy experience at times and not a tranquil idyll.
The bouncing over boat wake may not be for everyone.
I wondered about the damage the wake from these boats would be doing to the Mangrove and wildlife at its edge.
You visit a ‘Fish Farm’. As part of the tour. Very large size fish - Grouper and Stingray in small (but deep) pens. I think this farm is for tourist curiosity rather than a profitable fish farming from fry to adulthood.
Finish with a trip to the Bat Cave. Sad that many tourists per day parade through this cave shining torches (cost RM1) each to view the nocturnal bats. I guess they must be used to it by now?
On exiting the cave, a number of monkeys are present. Sad to see the wildlife chewing on plastic bottles and waste discarded presumably by tourists.
The area immediately outside the Kilim River Pier could benefit from a clean up of discarded bottles and plastic bags which birds and monkeys seem attracted to.
Extended tours of 3/4 hrs and half day with swimming and beach are available. 2 hrs was enough for ourselves.
If you have an environmental conscience, this trip might not be for you.

With no real plan for our day on Langkawi (from cruise) we got together with another couple to hire a taxi for 4 hours (120 ringgits). After a stop off to see Eagle Sq, our driver took us to the Mangrove tours. This was 350 ringgits for the 4 of us on our own boat. To be honest the thought of the bats terrified me (I had thought the boat went through the cave but this is not so). We disembarked and took a short walk to the mouth of the bat cave, encountering lots of naughty monkeys en route (do not carry food!!). Needless to say I waited outside but was entertained by the monkeys antics - they seem partial to fizzy drinks. Then it was back on board to meander through the mangroves. What I hadn’t appreciated at this point was the fact this was a speedboat - brilliant once I was over the shock. We took in a fish farm/restaurant, went out to the sea and watched the eagles feeding. Plenty of other wildlife to be seen with careful viewing.
All in all a great day out and so glad we did it. Can highly recommend. A DIY tour is very easy to do here and everyone was very helpful.

An evening or night tour of klim geoforest park is a must to do activity in Langkawi. Best to go for activity at 3 pm so that you may enjoy the evening at boat and not to miss the sun set. A BBQ dinner was included in the tour, which was good.
Small small thing which I cannot explain was marvellous like eagle bite, bat caves, seeing jellyfish snakes monkey glittering of light at night at water.
So whenever you visit Langkawi, Malaysia must keep half day for this activity

This is my second visit to the Geoforest park. The first was back in 2017.
The good thing is everything is fairly well maintained and you do get a fun half-day to spend among nature, the mangroves, and the eagles. On both trips, we chartered a private boat which allows us some flexibility in stops. The boat driver was quite indulgent this time, intentionally making high-speed turns for the kids!
The great part is as part of a UNESCO site, the eagle feeding is now limited to 100g of food so that the eagles do not grow dependent on human feeding and can fend for themselves.
We stopped at the private beach which got a bit crowded considering we went on a long-weekend.
Sadly though, the Geoforest Park Discovery Center was closed. I feel the center should be at least minimally staffed during daylight hours.

We booked the 2 hours trip which took us to the geo park, fish farm, the cave, eagle feeding and the crocodile tears. The best view was the geo park and eagle feeding. There weren't any crocodiles and nothing to see at the cave. The fish feeding was interesting. It is also a restaurant.
You can order fish to eat. The 2 hours trip cost Rm 180 at the mangrove place which is much cheaper than the other part of the coast

This is basically a Mangrove Tour on a speedboat with a number of activities to add on. The mangroves itself were beautiful and you get to see eagles, Brahmani Kites and long tailed macaques (monkeys). The Bat Cave is average with more tourists and monkeys sightings than actual bats. Ask you criss cross the sea there a number of 'created' tourist sights like Gorilla Mountain and Whale Island. The worst of the lot being floating fish farm. This is basically an enforced lunch. All boats stop at their designated fish farms. Either you buy lunch with your mangrove tour or you order there. As vegetarians we found nothing to eat. The fish farm tour is a mere formality showing you 5-6 types of fishes. If you take the longer tour then you go out towards the Andaman Sea from where you can see Thailand. We were lucky enough to spot several dolphins there and this was definitely the highlight of our tour. But I am told dolphins are not spotted as regularly. All in all the basic mangrove tour package will take about 2 hours and the one with the sea and fish farm tours about 4 hours. There is no point booking in advance as rates are fixed and on display at the pier. Boats go out on trips every half an hour so not a very long waiting time also.

They mangrove tour feed eagle with chicken skin, how is this sustainable and healthy for the sustainable development. The officer at the kilim museum is very friendly even if his fact is a bit lacking he is giving his best to answer the questions. How can nobody clean the abandoned boat in the mangrove boardwalk. Its not supposed to be abandoned here where the mangrove boardwalk is small but it represent the kilim management.

The place has many to offer. We had an exciting boat tour to the bat cave (you have to pay an additional ticket), then visited the crocodile-shaped cave with lots of wild monkeys. Be careful not to load too many snacks and fruits on the boat otherwise they will land on your boat and grab some of your food! The eagle feeding was really amazing. Don't forget to video it and take a picture at the Kilim Karst wall.

Hi. I don't know if it's weird to ask but is there anything to explore here without renting a boat?
Written August 21, 2020
I can only endorse the previous response in saying the boat trip is the best way to see the spectacular forest. Private boat my recommendation as you can ask questions and it’s more personal. Our guide didn’t agree with the fish park but we stopped to see it briefly. Please don’t encourage the monkeys to approach the boats which some tours do.

hi
from where did you book the tour for kilim karst and how much did it cost.
Thanks!

Actually I booked through an agent office at Cenang beach were we did the Jet ski , so it includes hotel pick up next day and drop off + Deluxe lunch and almost 5 hours boat ride - the price per person was 120R but I paid 150 pp includeing the deluxe buffet. I found out that prices are almost within reasonable range and there is not that much to argue with - Just don't let the drivers arrange it for you ....

About RM240 for 2hr shared tour. You will need to pay much more if you were to book the whole boat for your own people.
It's really fun and the tour guide was professional.

Hi,
I would like to know whether it is better to do a Kayak tour or a speedboat tour of this place? I am visiting Langkawi from 10th to 14th of August.
May I know how much you guys paid for this? also if it's better to go in a speedboat or a Kayak. I think Kayak will be peaceful. Where did you buy the tickets from? Can these be pre ordered?

Our tour was organised w the Naturalist at Four Seasons as we were guests at the resort ..
It is advisable to take a riverboat cruise w a knowledgeable guide .. plse avoid the "touristy" packages tt incldes "feeding the eagles" ..
The riverboat cruise shd be abt RM 200 to RM 500 per pax ..
It is possible to kayak at yr own pace, but i eld recommend a guided tour as the kilim karst geoforest park spans 100 sqm ..
A good guide will be able to manouevre thru the mangrove swamps for u to catch sight of a good variety of wildlife, monitor lizards, macaaques, tree crabs & migratory birds, kite eagles ..
Look out for the colourful fiddler crabs .. a very pretty sight ..
Search for more info on the internet ... enjoy the kilim karst geoforest .. it is pretty amazing

We organised our tour ourselves but I am sure if you look on trip advisor you will find tour operators who will take you there (private or group). In any case, it is easy enough to do it yourself and cut the middle man.

Hi, I am going to Kilim Geopark with 8 adults and 1 child. I was wondering where should I buy the ticket for 3 hour tour to get an affordable price and nice package?
Written June 14, 2019
You can take the help from the hotel where you proper to stay. Otherwise you can request travel agent who booked rooms for you. The travel agent will arrange a vehicle for you to go to the Geopark and also help you to get ticket for the boat journey. In fact we were eight in number and could visit the park comfortably in a medium sized boat.

Hi, I want to ask where should I buy the ticket when Im travelling with 8 adults including myself and a 4 year old?
Written June 13, 2019
I bought the tickets directly at the ticket counter. For a group like this ask for a considerable discount!

Is it better to hire private boat from beach or from the jetty? Also is 3 hours too long? Was considering 2-3 hours. Also already going to Tanjung Rhu beach so wondering if worth going to Kilim Karst to get boat.
Written April 1, 2019
The 3 hours tour is definately not too long - I promise! On the 2 hours tour you will miss the Andaman Sea. Make sure all attractions like bat cave, crocodile cave, eagle feeding and fish farm are included! On the fish farm you can touch a stingray.

Hello, I am going here with 8 other people (9 of us in total). Two are young children (2 years and 5 years) and another is an older lady. Is the mangrove boat tour suitable? And does it include entry fee to the park? I'm not sure about the ticketing options for the park
Written October 22, 2018
The boat is suitable for 9 people and for all ages the fee doesn’t include the bat cave tour it has its own fees but not expensive and the food on floating restaurant is not included in the package. It was nice experience and I enjoyed the time and the kids love the adventure a lot.
