- Traveller_BngBengaluru, India64 contributionsAn average experienceStayed in tented niche. Rooms are just basics. Unfortunately there is no proper water in hand shower or neither got hot water through geyser in one of the rooms that we booked. But other room was fine, rooms were in need of a renovation. Food served were basics and Guide appointed was helpful and took good care of the entire team of guests. He made sure he showed animals during safari. But safari was of a very long duration, there should be a provision to book only what we needed. The tribal dance and the bamboo rafting was good and not the safari itself.Visited December 2022Written December 5, 2022
- HappyvalleyT0ursBengaluru, India253 contributionsOur Experience in ParambiulamOur guest from New Zealand and UK visited Parambikulam for 01 N & 02 D program (December 13 & 14 2022) with me. guest stayed at Peruvari Island Nest . To be frank, this is a super spot for nature lovers and the food which the tribal team cooked for us was limited items, but delicious. We appreciate the same. We could spot Wild Elephants, Deer's, Peacocks, Wild Fox etc during our safari with a forest guide. It was also a memorable trip. The only negative part which we felt during our trip is the Forest Guide as he don't speak English / any other language except Malayalam and he was simply sitting in our car to find any animals en route our journey inside the forest. But as a guide, he should have knowledge about Parambikulam and he should have responsibility to explain his guest about Parambikulam and history in English. But he didn't due to lack of English knowledge. But our guest told me that this is their first poor experience with a forest guide in their life as wherever they visit to explore forest / safari, their guide could explain them in detail. But here the forest department failed to do so. They should give proper training to these guides regarding Parambikulam in English so that their clients will have an idea about Parambikulam. It is not like simply sitting in a vehicle by telling that he is a guide. I think I am not wrong , Hence i am not giving excellent or Good mark here. This is not fair to make money without dong anything by forest department. They should give those guides proper training to explain everything in English. Or guests will blame to the forest team and they will never recommend others here.Visited December 2022Written January 30, 2023
- goldsbLiverpool, United Kingdom378 contributionsVery Indian orientated touristyThis park is not orientated to anything other than Indian family tourism. We stayed two nights in the tented huts. The bathroom barely functioned ( no hot water, sink cold tap pathetic), no soap, we had to ask for towels. The safari bus ride is without merit. Very noisy, and obstructed views by people standing and clamouring all over the place. We did see some deer, elephants, and buffalo. The raft ride was 20 minutes of boating on the lake - the purpose ? Who knows why. The local ladies dancing were ‘enthusiastic’. The joy of Parambikulam is reasonable food( though nothing western). We were blessed with local guides to take us on small group walks - really useful for understanding the wild life, though I struggled with the English. The morning group walk was a bit of a noisy circus. Rather frustrating with regard to seeing anything. There is no guidance given about moving silently. I might as well have been at a sports event! We stayed at Honey Comb on 20-21 Aug 2022. We were two families with kids. The accommodation was not ready when we arrived at 1400 hrs for check in. We were instead given staff accommodation. The room was too small to accommodate a family and toiletries, towels were not provided. Nothing was working and we had to wait until 1500 hrs to get lunch and even drinking water was not provided. The catering staff was not available and the guides were cooking food for the guests. There was no manager or a supervisor at location who could manage the situation and everything was mess. As per schedule in the morning next day we were all ready for tea but again the catering team was unavailable and our guide Sanoj had to make the tea for us. Our whole stay was terrible experience and will not recommend this place to other travellers. It was evident that there was complete mismanagement and lack of interest for authorities in managing the tour appropriately. Our guide Sanoj was excellent and highly professional. He has good knowledge about the entire range and was very helpful with managing kids questions. He even cooked meals and morning tea for us as the contracted catering staff was not available.

This is a remote place this is under controlled by Kerala forest department. You can book your stay in forest department website in online, there are three four types of accommodation available.
There is no mobile network so you can free from all disturb. Tracking, boating & safari all include with packages.

Have visited Parambikulam Tiger Reserve several times. It is a protected area located in the Anaimalai Hills of Western ghats in Kerala state. You can visit this Reserve area from Pollachi town in Tamil nadu state. It is at about 60 km from Pollachi. We can spot animals such as Elephant, Tiger, Panther, Deer, Wild Dog, Nilgiri Tahr, etc being a thick forest. Parambikulam, Thunakadavu and Peruvaripallam dams are there.
Near by attraction, one would pass through is Topslip ie, one has to travel Pollachi-Topslip-Parambikulam. Totally 2-3 days may be required to cover the attractions here. The travel along the forest route itself will be amazing.

We visited this place as a family and were totally delighted by the experience. It delivered beyond our expectations which were quite reasonable given that this is a tiger reserve. It’s certainly not a luxury holiday but a comfortable one for sure. The rooms were clean and hygienic, the food was awesome and the location is a perfect spot to experience the forest and the local culture together. Note that the only mobile network available is BSNL. The trek on Day 2 and bamboo rafting were the highlights of our trip.
The forest department really deserves credit for enforcing the discipline in tourists for maintaining the habitat for the wild and yet making it safe for visitors. Thank you.

Honey comp is a Forest department accommodation that is 22 Kms inside the forest. There are 9 rooms with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. We stayed there 2 nights. Tasty Kerala style food served, and the supervisor was very cooperative. Tribal dance and bamboo rafting was a new experience. We saw few animals, but no Tigers. Gigantic 465 years old Teak tree is worth seeing. This reserve forest is full of Teak trees. A tribal settlement near Honey comb and the tourism is one of their main earning source. Honey comb can improve by providing better rooms with mattress, pillows etc with tourism in mind.

Do not expect a luxurious stay and food.
If you love nature and it's silence, this is the perfect place. Myself and family booked the honeycomb room in parambikkulam tiger reserve. It situated in the middle of the forest. There are many dams and associated reservoirs within this forest. All the reservoirs and water bodies are beautiful. The resort is managed by tribals and the hospitality provide d was great.

1. We visited Parambikulam Tiger Reserve (PTR) between 8th and 10 Dec 2015.
2. We took a flight to Coimbatore. And drove down 90 Kms to Parambikulam (Coimbatore - Pollachi - Anamalai - Sethumadai - Topslip - Parambikulam Information Centre). One has to cross 3 check posts (Sethumadai & Anamalai in Tamil Nadu, and one more on Kerala border.
3. We stayed for one night each at Thunakaduvu Treetop & Tented Niche (both operated by Kerala Forest department). The accommodation is basic but comfortable.
4. Thunakaduvu Treetop package for one day costs Rs. 4400/- (including stay + food + safari by bus + morning trek)
5. Tented Niche package for one day costs Rs. 5500/- (including stay + food + safari by bus + morning trek)
6. Kerala Forest also offers accommodation at Parambikulam Treetop & Honeycomb Complex. Both these accommodation is located in Parambikulam Village (located inside the forest about 20 Kms from Parambikulam Information Centre.
7. The bus safari takes you to Kanimara Teak tree (@450 years it is believed to be the oldest tree in India), Thunakaduvu Dam, Parambikulam Dam and Parambilulam Village.
8. The highlight of the 3 hour bus safari (ONLY FOR THOSE STAYING AT ACCOMMODATION PROVIDED BY KERALA FOREST DEPARTMENT) is a dusk drive (after sunset) from Parambikulam Village to Parambilulam Information Centre. Parambilulam village is located about 20 Lms from Parambilulam Information Centre. One gets to see Elephants, Indian Gaur, Jungle Hare, Spotted deer and a lot many animals during the dusk drive. DO CARRY ALONG A POWERFUL TORCH so that you can spot more animals.
9. The morning trek was also enjoyable. We managed to see a variety of birds besides SLOTH BEAR with 2 cubs, ELEPHANTS, INDIAN GAUR.
10. PTR is spread over 650 Sq. Kms. The forest was lush green because of the rains in December. For animal sightings, it is recommended that one visits PTR in April / May (when the forest is not lush geen)
11. Thunakaduvu and Parambikulam lakes are very scenic.
12. One can do bamboo rafting on Parambikulam Lake.
13. Car entry charges are Rs. 75/-, Camera charges are Rs. 50/-.
14. One can also take a bus safari (even if you are not staying at Parambikulam Forest accommodation). Minimum 20 persons are required for going on the bus safari OR one can pay Rs.3000/- and take the complete bus on a safari. However dusk drive is not allowed for such day visitors.
15. Kerala Forest officials will make all efforts to ensure that the guest enjoys the visit to PTR (whereas in nearby Anamalai Tiger Reserve, the approach of the Tamil Nadu Forest officials is pathetic with respect to tourist or customer orientation. Anamalai Tiger Resrve at Topslip is just 4 Kms from Parambilulam Information Centre)
16. We managed to see Elephants, Sloth Bears, Indian Gaurs, Crocodile, Spotted Deers, Malabar Giant Squirrels, Nilgiri Langurs, Peacocks, Malabar Parakeets, Kingfishers, and a host of other animals and birds.
17. Overall a nice place to visit

The visiting time depends on what the visitor wants. June-July is very hot. During the hot season the vegetation is lower making it easier to spot wild life. Not everyone wants to be out in the heat.

yes.,
Planning for a weekend stay at Peruvari Island Nest @ Parambikulam Tiger Reserve. Heard that food is not part of the package for stay at Island Nest. So can we carry food provisions while going there (from Coimbatore) or any grocery shop available at Parambikulam to buy?
Also do the forest officials at the toll gates allow food inside to carry like snacks, groceries etc..?

It's mentioned that two plus one extra person are allowed in tree top hut thunakadavu. We're a couple with a 5 year old kid and a 10 months old baby. Does my 20 month old count as an extra person?

Its absolutely safe for girls and family. Package is totally functioning by gov of kerala . authorities. Food, water and all amenities included in the packages. Mobile coverage is not available there. If you could buy a BSNL sim card, you can get network coverage in some areas. You may book the packages through parambikkulamorg website. Do not forget to bring the copy of your package pdf printout. Enjoy your stay.
