Next you will be heading to the much talked about South Coast, where you will explore the unique black sand beach, Reynisfjara and Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. After exploring the Eastfjords, Lake Mývatn awaits with its unique surroundings, you will explore Dimmuborgir lava pillars and then carry on the journey to the capital of the North, Akureyri. From there you will head down south to the capital.

While you enjoy this versatile tour you will be able to book extra tours and activities along the way to make your experience even more special, such as horse riding, snorkeling, and exploring ice caves to mention a few options.

We decided to hike to Hengifoss this morning. It is an easy hike for 2.5km one way and we have also been carrying a baby on a backpack. With all the photo stops it took us around 1 hour to get to Hengifoss. Halfway you will also see litlanesfoss with its basalt rock formation. We we’re almost alone on the hike but this could be due to COVID. Rating: must do hike to a beautiful waterfall.

Fairly easy hike. Took about an hour and 30 min in total. Beautiful waterfalls and fantastic view over the area.

There’s not too much to say. Park your car. Walk uphill with beautiful views of the river and forests behind you. See a little bonus waterfall on the way before making it to these incredible falls nestled into the volcanic rock. One of the most satisfying waterfalls I’ve seen here, and I’ve seen a hell of a lot.

Trekked up to see the 128m Hengifoss, the 3rd highest waterfall in Iceland. This unique waterfall has streaks of red clay and black basalt pressed into patterns on the cliff face This provided a colourful backdrop for the cascading water flow. Awesome view and well worth the arduous trek.

I enjoyed the hike up the mountain to view Hengifoss probably more than I did viewing it. I think part of the problem was that the trail to the base of the fall was closed so you had to view it from afar which wasn't as impressive as viewing it up close. I see from the photos here that people were allowed to hike to the fall up close so this is something I would love to do in the future. But in order to save time I'd recommend just hiking just to Litlanesfoss unless you love hiking and want to go up further. However, the view of Hengifoss from afar is not that impressive.
