World-class collection of artefacts in a sleepy museum

It was a good collection of artifacts, the display on coins was very interesting. Although all of the text is in Italian so I didn't spend a lot of time reading. The ceramics display is so similar countless others on the island. i would not have been disappointed to miss it. The baths are right behind it, I had some... More

Rather Small Museum but a Beautiful Collection - Worth Visiting - It contains a world class collection of early Greek pottery and many other artifacts retrieved from the area.

Having read in the guide book that this museum houses the world's largest collection of ancient Greek vases it seemed worth a visit. However the vast petrochemical plant on the outskirts of the town and a nondescript street did little to announce the existence of a world-class museum, but then that seems to be typical of this part of Sicily.... Here you get a broad overview about the history of Sicily starting with the first settlements and going to the times of the big Roman Emperors. Worth to go there.

This is a small museum that is not worth going out of your way to see. If you are driving by, you may want to stop in.

This Museum is well known to specialists but few people visiting the Island seem to include it in their program. It contains a world class collection of early Greek pottery and many other artifacts retrieved from the area. The most momerable for me was a bronze helmet retrieved from the beach in around 2000. It is in stunning condition and... More

The collection is rich and priceless, but the organization of museum doesn't worth the showpieces. It is very old styled, and I suppose not interesting for children or people who aren't keen on history. They have all to make a great fascinating museum! And definitely translation needed, all descriptions are in Italian only.

I've got family from Gela and on a visit to see them with a friend I took a trip here - The museum itself is relatively well stocked with local artifacts from the areas very rich history and ancient Greek heritage, but nothing was really signposted and there was no description in other languages. I speak Italian, but my friend... More

Spending a month in Sicily, we found that many of the archaelogical museums are closed, officially "for renovation", but, I came to believe, more to balance local authorities budgets. Gela's is open, and quite nice and - if you're interested by such things - quite interesting. It's not as big as the one in agrigento, but well worth a visit... More
