About
Step into the Wild West at Nelson Ghost Town, an abandoned gold mine located just 45 minutes from Las Vegas. It's been featured in tons of music videos, films and video games, though it's not just a spot for pop culture fans. Join a guided tour and check out the restored houses, cool historical artifacts and a collection of vintage cars. You can drive a few miles to the east to see Nelson’s Landing, where a short trail downhill leads to a lookout with views of the Colorado River. It's also a great pitstop on a day trip to Vegas or the Hoover Dam. – Tripadvisor

I have been exploring Ghost Towns in Nevada and since we live in Las Vegas, we finally drove out to Nelson. We did not book the mine tour but walked around instead. The people working in the Antique Shop were not very helpful or friendly. My feelings are why advertise to get visitors to make the drive only to treat them less than friendly. If you own the town and want to be left alone then don’t advertise. There were a lot of old vehicles and other old stuff which was kind of interesting but there was also newer stuff just thrown around their displays. I probably wouldn’t recommend that my family or friends go out there. There are much better places almost just as close to Las Vegas. It was worth it to drive past Nelson to the end of the road which overlooks the Colorado river.

DO NOT RECOMMEND!! My family and I drove 30+ hours from Michigan to see this for we are very interested in this type of history as well as being major car fans. We came here just for pictures and a little education but were instead greeted with nasty signs saying “GET OUT!” And “Do not stop!”
We were very disappointed especially since their Facebook says “Always open” when they most definitely are not. We were also getting dirty looks from multiple people who live here. This in itself is disappointing since the meaning of “Ghost town” is abandoned and uninhabited by people which it certainly is not. Very very disappointed and offended. If i could give zero stars, I absolutely would

This was really a unique opportunity to take a trip back in time. The owners are wonderful and you are free to wander around at your heart's content. There are some things that you can pay for, however you are also allowed to wander at your leisure. The landscape is magnificent and something that should be treasured as you won't see it anywhere else in the world. The Colorado River is just a short drive away. The stop reminds me of my trips with my parents when I was growing up.

This is a photographer's paradise. There are acres of memorabilia consisting of airplanes, cars, buses, and the list goes on. They even have their own wedding chapel.

Personally, I go there to do night photography. I've been coming here once a year for about 8 years. The place is always changing. There is a nominal fee per hour for photographers to stay after closing time. The staff has always been very kind and welcoming.

This is basically a junk yard, not a ghost town. They couldn’t be less welcoming. Everywhere there are signs that say no trespassing, get out, turn back, private property, etc. Maybe they think they’re being funny? There’s a palpable negative vibe, bad energy. We paid the $1.00 per person fee to walk around and then some random guy told us we were in a private area, but it looked like everything else on the property. If you happen to be driving through, maybe stop? But it’s for sure not worth making a special trip.

Tucked in the middle of the desert, this family-owned "ghost town" brings history to life. There is an impressive collection of antique cars, busses and even planes tucked inside an old mining town. The owner does personal tours and is a wealth of information. There are many photo opportunities throughout the property. I recommend avoiding mid-day if you want good lighting. It is a great way to spend a couple of hours.

What an absolute gem out in the desert. Not only is there a lot to do for photographers, the tour guide, Bruce, was worth the visit alone. Although our party 'imploded' and Bruce had to deal with some unruly kids (don't bring a buggy/stroller to the mine tour - it's easier to get through without), Bruce remained entertaining, full of knowledge and shared lots of information with us about the mine and local area. The mine tour is a must.
Ok, so it's an old town with a lot of relics, not a strict 'ghost town' as the owners and Bruce live there, but got talking to another local from the real Nelson town up the road and it was so good to talk to him and hear his stories too.
Don't go there to rush through a ticket list. Take your time. Look around. Talk to the locals. it's worth it.
We went from there to the Colorado (amazing and restorative) before driving out to the Pioneer Saloon (good to see, not so good to eat at!).
Nelson is definitely a list that will stay with us fondly for many years - thanks Bruce :)

We weren’t able to commit to a tour due to timings etc, but we decided to drive out and have a brief visit. We arrived to find a lot of negative signage which was a bit off putting. We went inside the shop/house only to be greeted with more negativity. Our boys are 20 and 17rs of age and the owners are not child friendly stating that they need to be kept under control. We had a look around and then left. It’s a shame that this Ghost Town isn’t a bit more relevant to what actually went on there. Really it’s just a huge collection of junk!!

Bruce the tour guide was phenomenal, as well as the experience of touring the mine. We are locals, originally from Chicago, and we look forward to returning with out of town visitors. The ghost town itself is incredible on its own, and well worth the visit. We strongly recommend booking the gold mine tour. Bruce was extremely informative, engaging and very funny. Everyone on the tour had a great time, learned a lot, and were all happy they went on the tour. A+

This is a really fun day trip from Las Vegas. The store has lots of interesting memorabilia and the proprietor is interesting and knowledgeable. (watch out for the cactus!) There's a mine tour that fills up on weekends so be sure to make a reservation. The grounds have lots of artifacts and great photo ops. Both times I've been there photo shoots were going on. Afterward continue down the highway to the Colorado river for a picnic.
