It may be interesting to visit bit only if you have time and nearby in Viagrande (e.g. combine with Etna). There is not much special if you visited other butterfly houses. The guided tour in English is very short and you may want to reserve it by email in advance. A pleasant surprise was that some butterflies do not hesitate to sit on your shirt if it is a colorful one.

If you are looking to pass some time in a natural environment then Casa delle farfalle is the place. You will not see one piece of cement, all built from wood, it has an insect area, butterfly area and material area. It is a guided tour and very informative, it is great for kids to learn about the life cycle of the butterfly. We were shown in to the butterfly house first which was great with butterflies flying all around us, we were even introduced to a stick insect. After we were guided into the insect house which my kids loved, they even got to stroke a Millipede and were introduced to many other insects, then we were lead into the material area where they showed us how silk was produced. Our last stop was the information house and then we were left to our own devices so we could have a look through the butterfly house again. Outside there was a playground area for the kids and a covered picnic area. There is also a walk leading through the woods which we started to do but turned round and ran out the moment we saw a snake slithering under the leaves. Definitely worth a visit if you are looking to pass a morning in a nice natural place.

This is a highly educational place which I reccomend also to families with small children. It is important to follow the guided tour which is free and scheduled at regular time (better to call to check opening times and tour times). The tour is not so long but around there is a park for taking a walk. Ideally the visit of this place can be combined with the visit of Etna and at the end the lovely city of Zafferana Etnea. The most interesting part is walking the green house with all butterflies flying around and landing on people. I also liked the information on the silk and colors of the animals. I hope that this museum can grow and get more spaces and tools (videos, games, art pieces inspired or related to butterflies, etc.). I wish all the best to the organization who started and is maintaining this. For two adults and one child we paid 12 euro.
