A temple built by the great Indian Army and its history pretty well laid out. You will cherish every moment spent. We went after CoVID the pool is still not open but everything else is open. No push from anyone at temple and not commercialized is a good sign.

Nothing spectacular unless you are religious type. The main positive for me is the shops leading to the temple that have good prices. 100rs for a good pair of gloves, same as for socks. Some very cheap stuffs sold here.

A nice and small temple with a swimming pool and a decent market outside. Swimming pool is closed due to COVID. Market is cheaper as compared to the main mcleodganj market. Do visit the temple. It's on the way to bhasunag waterfalls

Temple is near to Macloadganj, just 10 minutes drive. Parking is big issue. Totally mismanagement. Temple is said to be very old and built by Army. People do take dip in flowing stream nearby and go further trekking to Bhagsu waterfall. Situated in the mid of street need to walk a while . Lots of street vendors.

A very Calm and Peace full place .You feel real peace here. A very clean temple in the mountains with a purely majestic waterfall behind. A lot time is required to visit this place because this place is so good that your heart will not allow you to leave form here.
must visit place. anytime rain could make the atmosphere so good there.

Bhagsunag Temple is a 5100 year old Hindu abode on the slopes of the picturesque Dhauladhar range in the village Bhagsu, some 2 kms from McLeod Ganj.

A major earthquake in 1905 destroyed much of this age old temple as also the Kangra valley and the British garrison. With that calamity, the rulers of India, the Brits changed their plans of making Dharamsala their summer capital, choosing instead another nearby hill-station, Shimla. Even as that decision was made, the legendary 1815 raised battalion Gurkha Light Infantry which became the 1st Gurkha Rifles rebuilt the town and temple.

Presently there is little to show of the temple’s old glory. All that remains are ancient stone sculptures of Hindu gods, much of which are either defaced or have been ravaged by time. In the compact sacred premises, and courtyard, today are framed pictures of Lord Shiva and Parvathi, young Krishna riding the sea-serpents, Dal Lake and so on; more recently sculptured idols of goddess Kali, Hanuman, Shiva, Ganesha… and several plaques of fallen Gurkha war heroes fill this holy place. A dharmashalla or free lodging for pilgrims/travelers is across the narrow lane, built by the Gurkha Rifles regiment in 1939. Adjoining this is what looks like a ‘swimming pool’ - actually it is a freshwater spring, in which pilgrims to take a holy dip. On our visit we saw several tourists and their children in swimming gear taking a break from a hot day in the tank.

En route to the temple one sees several inns, modern shops, eateries including pizzerias...and mountain goats – evidence of the resident Gaddi tribals who make a living in traditional herding and farming.

This is a small temple which is at the footsteps of the gigantic and majestic Bhagsu Waterfalls. It seems to be a crowded place with a tank at outside for people to bathe in and it serves as a holy pool. The pool is unclean and the structure is not being looked after. The place though, seems to carry a sacred mythological story to it. When on the way to Bhagsu, you can pray inside the complex.
