I write this passage for incoming tourists.
Ogasawara have very fantastic nature, in particular , sea is very beautiful. many fishes, comprehensive coral.
And if you go the time of hatching, you can often see baby sea turtles.
You can enjoy a wide variety of outdoor activity, such as sea kayak, snorkeling, dolphin swim, trekking, and so on.
Unfortunately, Ogasawara is inconvenient transportation.
There is only ferry once a week from TOKYO, and it takes 25hours!
If you tend to be seasickness, it is better to bring medicine.

Ogasawara is a real treat. Very different from the rest of Japan... lots of unique nature from Dolphins and Whales to endemic bird species. Great hikes. Interesting locals. Super organized and clean. The little bus service is a classic. Make sure you have an international license if you want to rent scooters... and they may not let you anyway. And you may need a bike license addendum on your international.
Tips:
For your trip, bring and read the book 'Flyboys' for some interesting history that you WILL NOT be told about at the Visitor's Center.
Talk to the oddball caucasian-looking guys that you may see around the harbor. They are descendants of the original inhabitants. They all speak English. And they have some great tales and insights to tell.
Check out the little bar Yankee Town about a 20 minute walk East of the main harbor. Rance, the owner, speaks perfect English and has lived in California and has a great life history if you are interested.
Talk to Stanley for boat trips to swim with dolphins, etc. I think his company is called Pink Dolphin.
Go to all the little beaches and hike all over!

I went to Chichijima in October.
It was not a very good season, no whales, plenty of typhoons, but even at that the place was beautiful. It is well worth the 25-hour-long boat ride, as the length of the trip acts as a deterrent to many casual visitors of Japan: the islands are still pristine. The landscapes are beautiful, we saw plenty of dolphins and rugged beaches.
You get a special send-off when the boat leaves, taiko drums and hibiscus flowers.
This trip takes advanced planning, as getting ferry tickets can be difficult.

It takes 24 hours by ferry from Tokyo to Chichijima. The ferry is operated once every 6 days and it takes at least 6 days to go and stay in Chichijima. Chichijima is located in the Pacific Ocean, and the surrounding area is the ocean. It was registered as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site because of many species of animals and plants. Among the endemic species, birds and snails are particularly famous. There are many inns and restaurants in the island, also are three supermarkets, a ATM, and a post office in the town. Many travel agencies offer day trips.

Definitely recommended for marine activities. The ocean is absolutely beautiful. The West Annex lodge owner was so nice! I will return again during the summer.

Island culture on Chichijima is much more similar to Hawaii than Tokyo. Despite being 1000km from Tokyo city, somehow Chichijima is still part of the Tokyo prefecture. This bright tropical paradise boasts whale-watching opportunities, excellent snorkeling, mid-sized surfing waves, scuba-diving, fishing, and more. It has been a wild ride, and I seriously can't stop blogging about my experience.

Hi, I would like to visit this island and to stay there for one week. I'll be with with my wife and our 16 old year son. We love to make some snorkeling and chilling at the sunset. Do you think it's a good idea?
Many thanks

Definitely YES! We went to the island last week, and had a great time there!
By the way, can you speak Japanese? If NO, I recommend just in case to search for tour guide & accommodation (boarding house) that can communicate in English. They could help your smooth and comfortable trip.
There are many tour guides/ agents for snorkeling and accommodations there. Hope you can enjoy like us.
