You can walk on a vast lava flow while watching the ruins of a school buried with lava flows of eruption that occurred in 1983. 三宅島屈指のジオスポット。立ち寄り必須の災害遺構。滞在時間は30分から、できればじっくり歩いてほしい。 溶岩に埋もれた学校を風化してもそのまま遺構として残こしていることに意義を感じる。実際人災がなかったことが奇跡だと感じる。この場所に立てば学校の遺構が、ただただ自然の驚異を無言で伝えてくれる。パンフレットや画面を通して見ただけでは不十分な自然の驚異を体感してほしい。こうして自然災害を遺構として後世に残すことがいかに大事かよくわかる。
