$18,000 to enter (for a foreigner - don't know if there is a different price for locals) Stairs are a bit difficult but with breaks it would definitely be accomplishable for most. Beautiful views at the top and on the way up. There is also...More

Great advice from reading everyone's reviews, take your time and enjoy the view. It's a small hike (10-15)mins up hill to the entrance and then about 775 steps up to the very top. Never seen anything like it so very special.

If you're in Medellin, visiting this region is a must. Stay a day or two and visit this amazing rock. The climb is strenuous but worth it. Have a michelada with Mango when you reach the top.

For a nice day trip from Medellin, del Penal and Guatape will be worth your time. The 740 steps to the top are narrow and steep but the views are very nice as you can see for miles.

Climbing to the top of this unusual rock formation rewards outstanding lake and mountain views . You can take as much time as needed to get to the top ( over 700 steps ) and when you get to the top you can rest and...More

Went all the way to the top, made it through the 750 steps and it was completely worth it. It was fairly warm out and it was a good workout but the view is incredible. 360 degree every directive makes for some good pictures! The...More

Looking down from the top of the Peñol is incredibly beautiful. You can see the rivers, the town, and the mountains that make the panorama so picturesque. It's quite a climb to get to top, but it is perfectly doable in about 20-25 minutes.

Hi! My friend and I want to visit El Peñol while we're in town, but we don't want the all day tour. We don't have much more time here in Medellin so we'd like to squeeze in as much as possible in one day... Like the coffee plantation. Is there transportation to the rock without a tour? If so, how do I go about getting this transportation and around how much? Thank you!

You can go by bus and it will cost approximately 12.000 pesos (one way, per person). Got to Caribe metro station, where the North terminal is located. From there take a bus to "La Piedra" (it's a 2h ride). From la Piedra... More

Hi Alex, I'm going this July and my boyfriends family keeps talking about how amazing this is going to be and I'm terrified of heights, and I don't know what to do. Tell me about the stairs are there handles to go up and down? You said it's not so bad to come down? When I get to the top, I won't go near the edge or nothing I'm so terrified my fear makes me want to jump, so I have to stay quite away those that don't understand the fear don't get it.

Worst part is going up the stairs. Certain parts were a little too open for me however you are never in any real danger as the protective wall is high so its purely a irrational sensation those who have fear of heights will... More
I'm planning to visit Medellin in March and would love a recommendation on a day trip to Guatape and el Penol. Does any one have a recommendation on a specific tour that isn't terribly expensive? Or should I just take the bus? Thanks!
