The climb seems daunting when you stare up at the rock but it's really not that bad. The ascenders and descenders are separated and each have their own stairway. The view is beautiful, as it seems in pictures. Make sure to go to the very top, requires a few more stairs on a cramped spiral stairway but you are rewarded... More

Going to Guatapé and seeing la Piedra del Penol was one of my favorite things do to outside of Medellin. I would definitely recommend staying a night here in one of the towns cute hostels so you have time to both climb the rock, see the cute town, go on a boat trip, go kayaking and just feel the vibe... You have to go there while being in Medellin. I recommend to stay for 1-2 nights in Guatape to enjoy the city, lake and La Piedra!

When in Gustavo, this is a must-do. Climbing the stairs was easier than we expected and although it's all pretty commercial, the view makes up for it. Even though we had some clouds, we still enjoyed it very much.

725 steps up and remember your at 7200 feet so the air is a little thinner. This mid aged man did it going slow. View at the top well worth it.

Even if you don't climb to the top, the views of Peidra del Penol are amazing at best. Take a lot of pictures and be prepared to climb. I hear coming down is more of an adventure than going up!

Definitely worth walking up the 740 steps each way to experience fantastic views. Does get crowded. Take water. The way up is separate to the way down which is good.

Came here on a quick day trip and it was just lovely. According to the signage you only have to climb 740 stairs to reach the top, providing a beautiful 360 view of the area. The stairs are fairly easy to climb assuming you're healthy and very safe. There are shops and restaurants at the entrance and three small shops... More

It is a must to see if you are visiting Medellin in Colombia. Breathtaking views of the lakes from the top. Be ready to climb the 740 steps and you'll have the most unforgettable experience of your life. The price is 6 dollars. Wonderful time
