One needs to walk about 700 odd stairs to climb the Rock, but the view from the top is totally worth the effort. Its easily reachable from Medellin by public transport and once there it is required to pay an entry fee to climb the rock. The view of the artificial lake with the little islands is simply awesome.

don't miss the opportunity to walk all 700 and something stairs and experience breathtaking views. i took public transportation from Medellin, way cheaper than a tour. Most tours do not include the fee to go up the rock. Terminal De Transportes del Norte has buses leaving every few minutes. the lady a t the bottom pf the Penol, where the... More

Make sure you visit on a sunny day to get the best views of the lakes! It's about 675 steps up to the top and the entrance fee is 18000 COP per person. It's totally worth a visit.

If you are a hiker make sure that you climb to the top (740 steps). The view is worth it, you will see the whole lagoon and houses build around it

I have visited this place already 2 times. First time in August 2012, and now in October 2016. I just love this place, worth every time. The view from the top is spectacular and unforgettable. The way up is 650 step stairs so it can be a bit difficult, but you can stop, rest and enjoy the view. There is... More

This is the most iconic place of the area, you must visit the "Huge rock" and climb de 740 steps to the highest place and see the amazing view of the lake and the near towns.

This is one of the most interesting things to do when you are in Medellin. Rates are not bad, as for December 2016 the fee to go up to this rock was 18000 COP (Like 6 USD). The view is amazing. Make sure you carry water.

When traveling to Medellin, another traveler I met mentioned that I need to go to the Rock in Guatape. I was skeptical as I was only in Medellin for the weekend and this trip took a good chunk of the day, but after the long bus ride getting there was eye opening. Climbing to the top in a good workout,... More

La Piedra is a great hike to keep you in shape and the views at the top are a welcome reward--think lakes and rolling hills stretching out to the horizon, capped by mountains. Try to come early in the morning, as you can sunburn easily while climbing or at the top and it gets pretty crowded. Also, watch your head... More
