Just stunning. Combine a day trip that covers the Rock of Guatapé, El Peñol, or El Peñón de Guatapé, Laguna Guatapé and the town itself, Guatapé. Really breathtaking and makes a nice day trip from Medellin.

Small colorful town which is great for photos but is so overtaken by tourism and we forget that this is where other people live. It's beautiful with all the stories painted in the tiles. Also there are stray dogs everywhere but they seem to be fed and well taking care of. I'm a pet lover so I felt in heaven.Wishing I would had more time to explore.

This little fountain can be found in the heart of Guatape. It is a small hidden gem that if you find it you will be amazed. It's intricate art and well-maintained painting make it great for a photo that sums up the beautiful town of Guatape so well.

The reviews on here seem to be of Guatape rather than the Dam, which is different.
When the town was moved and the lakes flooded they saved the church and built a small replica above water level. This is a small site which replicates a square in the town but it is full of cheap souvenier shops over looking the lake and the dam.
Not a lot to see here, other than the wreck of a boat that capsized and drowned people abandoned on the shore.
Go to the town proper and take a trip to El Penol to climb the rock and view the lakes from there.

I wish that I had had more time in the town of Guatape! Amazing colors and mural paintings on the lower levels of businesses. Great for meandering and photos. Neat little shops. Highly recommend spending a half day here or even spending the night here and exploring in the morning.

The colors and beautiful buildings, which all seem to be uniquely designed was a great place to walk around and to take photos. It is worth it to know, because the place is fairly touristy the prices were a little more expensive for food and drink.
However the Coffee was above average. I definitely think it was worth it to try some of the coffee, this area is quite renown for their coffee apparently.

Hey, this review is for the whole town of Guatape.
It’s an awful tourist-trap with no soul. All the colorful houses are just painted to lure some tourist in. Every place tries to sell you worthless junk or overpriced food. Seriously, there is literally nothing genuine to see but a drinking hall where the old folks go and drown their sorrow because they sold the soul of the town for some tourism pesos.
Not worth it. Go to Jardin instead !

The area in general is nice, but there is mediocre management of everything. Lots of trash and dirt everywhere.

The Dam definitely created one of the most spectacular views all around. That's especially true of you're hiking all the way atop the Big Rock! There are countless of Lake that were created because of that, and the area is just beautiful!

Our family of four recently took a boat tour of the man made lake in Guatape. The experience was great fun and informative. We had a great boat captain that was a young resident when the original town was flooded. He knew so much of the town's history and even took us by one of Escobar's old homes and explained the history behind it.
