Every library should strive for the design excellence of this building. It’s a masterpiece by MVRDV, the Dutch architecture firm behind Markthal and many other well-received buildings in Holland. The staff was welcoming and the cafe is a nice spot for lunch. Worth a trip from Rotterdam if you’re a fan of good design and/or public architecture.

As a library, it is just a library, but as a building, it is very special. You need to go inside for a good impression, just to see the outside façade will not convince you.

This is huge library enclosed in a glass pyramid and looks stunning. Architecture is a new concept and good one, should be visited if your close by.

New library from 2012 basically a pile of books covered by a 26m high glass pyramid. Architect Winy Maas from MVRDV (Markthal in Rotterdam designed by the same firm). The library area is one space. The different floors to access the 'mountain' of books are all connected by open staircases, though there is a lift as well.
Openness, accessibility, transparency seem to be key concepts of the design. Very different if you are used to the old Dutch libraries that kept the larger public out. Certainly an improvement, though I missed the atmosphere of quietness and study.

Ready puts new mean to a library as a public / community space. With the library housed under a glass pyramid it really puts the inside on display to those outside which entices people to come in.

This library is open for the general public so everyone is free to enter and read books and magazines. They also provide a small snack with a drink or even a lunch. And yes they have also WiFi and very friendly staff.

If you are in the area and you are interested in architecture or libraries, this is worth a detour. Easy to get there on the metro from central Rotterdam, and then a short walk across the small town centre. It literally is a book mountain, as the name suggests, built inside a glass pyramid. Interesting mixture of modern architecture with very traditional aspects, such as the tables and chairs and shelves and the little rooms created for small discussions- all of which could be in a traditional library. So much light in the building and a sense of fun. Very friendly staff allowed us to wander round and admire. In the older part of Spijkenisse, which has some delightful vernacular buildings, to contrast with the more modern part of town. Whole place is interesting from the town planning point of view.

Very nice library, it's a shame that the highest books are discoloured. Nice that you can eat there too. With a view of the market. Friendly staff. Enjoyed listening to Judith Visser
