Museum does a wonderful job celebrating mostly local history in an experiential way. If you know that going in, it’s a great stop.
Curators do not seek to impart any broad narratives or deep dive on historical nuggets through detailed descriptions. It's not the traditional, “Here’s a big story, and to tell that story here’s artifacts under glass with captions.”
That’s the curatorial choice, and it’s executed with much love and competence.
Consistent English would be greatly appreciated to make more welcoming to foreigners. All of the aircraft and most military vehicles lack English on the placards. In exhibitions for toys, tractors, and other large presentations, there is no English at all. Easy fix!
Well worth the stop.

This huge site takes in a lot of walking . The exhibits are housed in huge hangers .
Down one side is the History of the area that all used to be marshland . And how Italians were brought to the area with the promise of land for clearing the marshland .
If you like your farm machinery and local history this is for you
The other side is all about the War , Anzio beach landings and Monte casino
Huge authentic real life scenarios
Real old war vehicles tanks , amphibious vehicles etc
As you walk through there are realistic sounds of war and also cool lighting effects .
Very poignant is the far to realistic concentration camp displays . Really starts you thinking
There are Planes out on the outside area with one huge troop carrier with the addition of a euro turns it’s huge propellers
The hangers with the war exhibits is very thought provoking and you can easily while away four or five hours . We were lucky in Feb very few visitors felt like we had the place to ourselves . Good translation for English speaking ,
Nice areas for lunch outside for good weather
Toilets clean and well looked after .
Check discounts for kids and over 50 S
Lots of walking the hangers are at least 100 metres long ,
Lots of photo opportunities
Will include some photos and hope you can see the Scale of the exhibits
If you are into a bit of army memorabilia at the end in the last hanger is full of all sorts of army clothing . And everything an Army might need
Well worth a look if you find yourself in the Area .

We went to the Piana delle Orme Museum in principal to see the exhibits relating to the second world war, but little did we realise the full content of the museum and can honestly say we enjoyed all of the museum.
There are sections on childrens toys, model airplanes and boats, collectors figurines and toy soldiers, how the local land was developed, cars, the history of machinery to name but a few, plus of course the areas covering the second world war.
It really is an outstanding museum where we spent a good few hours.
Staff are helpful and welcoming and there is a restaurant on site serving hots dishes as well as Panini's etc.
Come on your own if you can rather than on a tour so you have enough time to see and experience all that is here.

I visited Piana delle Orme numerous times, and every time I manage to notice something new, is such an extensive collection of war memorabilia. If you are passionate about history this is the place.

We visited this museum as part of a tour of the Monte Cassino and Anzio battlefields with Dr. Danila Bracaglia. It is a gem! The museum contains dioramas depicting rural life in the area including the draining of the Pontine marshes. We were there for the World War II exhibits and were astonished at the enormous number of military equipment and vehicles on display. We've never seen that many in one place before, many of which were very rare. Dioramas told the story of the allied campaign in Italy as well as the Italian campaigns in Africa. We only saw a portion of this museum in our 2 hour visit. It is incredibly well done and we are so happy it was included in our tour.

Located just 15 minutes by car from the city of Latina, I would noy expected to find such an interesting museum. Covers two sectors. The left side is dedicated to agricultural life, and the machineries - equipements that have been used. But a lot of machineries from 1900 and after mainly not only from Italy and other countries are placed there. There also sceneries from every day life of the past, very well prepared.
The second sector is dedicated to Worl War II and has both machineries-equipements and sceneries from great battles that Italians were involved.
In the museum there is audio system in every room with english, italian or german language but the sound quality is not that good. Hoever there are many explanation boards all over the place. There is an vending machine with water etc and surpricily the water of 0.5 costs only 50 eurocents. The normal ticket cost 12 euro per person and I believe it is a fair price.

This is a place not to be missed if you love history. The amount and quality of the displays is really something special.Plan to spend several hours there. The cafeteria is good but I was not crazy about the food. But then Italy was not my favorite place for food.

The museum, even though does not look as such because of the "buildings" that really do not recall a museum at all, is simply unique, it is like a jump in the past. You can literally walk in detailed scenarios of the 19/20th centuries: farms, barracks, battle fields where you will find real equipments, weapons and even tanks and other machines from the 2nd World War...(some of them were used to film amazing movies too).
The atmosphere is captivating whether you are visiting a war scenario or even if you are visiting the old toys installation. Not to mention the Pontina swamps remediation settings!
Absolutely worth a visit and even more than one if you can. If only I knew about such a museum when I was a student I would have loved to visit it and feel and touch and smell what I was just reading on books at school.
My only advice is to visit the place whenever you prefer, but possibly not in July or August because the temperature can get very, very high indoor.
The price is very reasonable.

I had low expectations but I was positively surprised by several pavillions such as Anzio, Cassino, Shoah and military vehicles. A definitely must go with kids to understand the history of the region and the WWII.

We'd read reviews and expected the museum to be interesting .... it was extremely so. The 13 large sheds are divided into rooms with life sized scenes as well as artefacts. There are information boards all the way round in Italian, English and German. There are also audio explanations in most rooms, although so heavily accented that we could only understand a few, but this did not matter as it summarised the information on the boards.
We spent an hour and half in the first 3 of 13 big shed, which was toys & model soldiers and then a thorough explanation of the all the attempts to drain the poverty stricken and malaria ridden area. After lunch we strategically skipped the agricultural / country life sections and went straight to WWII. We have been travelling in Italy since September and piecing together Italy's part in the war. This exhibition fully explained Mussolini's decision to enter the war (when he throught France was about to surrender and Italy would benefit from the victors' spoils, to the armistice with lack of instruction for the Italian armies resulting in brothers fighting on opposing sides, the push into Greece and the operations swinging back and forth in N Africa. One of the most moving sheds is about the destruction of Montecassio Abbey (St Benedict founded it and wrote the monastic Rule here) and the inordinate loss of life on both sides. We'd visited this 3 days ago and the Polish War Cemetery is very moving.
The guide book states you need 5 hours ... we spent 6 hours and still missed 4 sheds! We have never seen such a huge collection of restored military vehicles anywhere.
- Plan to spend the whole day, which will give you time for coffee and a lunch break.
- Animals, such as ostrich and peacocks are in pens between each shed to interest small children.
- The shop primarily consists of military clothing and paraphernalia.
- In March the coffee shop / restaurant had a reasonable choice of hot dishes (but no sandwiches).
- Easy to find as signpost off the main road.
- Facilities and site really clean.
We are amazed this is not in either of our Italy guide books as it is one of the best museums we have ever visited.
