About
This unfinished fifth-century Doric temple has everything but a roof and an interior, and the huge structure seems unaffected by time. A small theater atop a nearby hill offers visitors a stunning view of green hills and the deep blue hues of the sea below.

This place has a HUGE lot to park in right next to the attraction but they do not allow visitors to park there. They make you park a 5 minute drive away and pay 5 euros so a bus can drive you there! I am really disgusted about that and the attraction itself was absolutely not worth it. Perhaps I have explored too many other amazing attractions. Not impressed at all and would not recommend. Also, if you want to see the "teatro" you can pay another 1.5 euros to get up the hill by bus! Every step of the way they charge you.

My wife and I visited this site with a Small Private Tour Group (11 of us) and a English speaking guide. It is a remarkable, unfinished fifth-century Doric temple without an interior or roof. The Temple was built around 430 BC and it is one of the best preserved Doric Temples in the world. Also nearby there is a small theater that has incredible views of the hills and the sea below. Being on this small tour we didn't have to worry about parking and our guide was a wealth of information. We highly recommend this be part of your visit to Sicily,

Unless you are a greek temple expert then one temple tends to look like all the rest except for the level of completeness. What make Segesta so worth visiting is it is almost complete and sits in a beautiful valley largely free from modern buildings. Compared with the site at Agrigento where the modern town dominates the skyline, Segesta is magical especially when viewed from the theatre at the top of the nearby hill. Unlike other reviewers I would suggest you do not take the shuttle bus up to the theatre and old city site but walk on the small path that leaves the road on the left just after the bus stop. This will take you past old city walls, defensive towers and some interesting ancient houses. When we were there hardly any one else used this path. If coming by car from the main Trapani road watch out as the parking site is poorly signposted and is on the right almost immediately after you come off the main road.

Well worth a visit. Due to COVID using only the overflow car park signed right after exiting Autostrada and served by a shuttle bus. Once at complex I recommend taking another bus up the hill to the theatre and walking down for great views of temple and surrounding countryside.

The vote is up to the organisation, total indifference and carelessness towards visitors coming from thousands of kilometres.
Arriving at 5pm, the adults were made to pay the full ticket even though access to the theater was already forbidden... due to the performance scheduled for 7.30pm!
No sign indicating its closure and above all the closing times.
Request denied to be able to return the next day to visit the theater with the same ticket already paid in full.
Totally unprepared if not improvised staff at the ticket office/reception, rude and arrogant in charge of the temple.
Wonderful temple but in a state of serious neglect (neglected path, weeds and shrubs grown on the columns)

I think the other reviews have summed it up but from our own experience, we made the mistake of arriving in the afternoon in the searing and unforgiving sun. There is a long walk to be had up to the temple itself so you really need to be fairly fit.
I think my problem here is that you must park a kilometre away in a touristy car park area designed for this purpose. Six Euros each although (tip!) these are not checked anywhere. This is supposed to include your own car being parked here - you have no other choice. You're then transported on a bus back up to the temple area and charged again for entrance. "Rip off" springs to mind.

The temple and amphitheater, are both amazing in their preservation and settings. The views from both are spectacular. The ticket is €6, so definitely worth it. There is quite a bit of walking to do so be aware of this but it really is worthwhile.
Try to ignore the terribly rude staff at the gate or at the ticket booth and desk. They do not want to provide any information and very obviously have not been trained for visitors interaction. It is very clear that visitors are an annoyance to them, but for that reason now it think it’s also worth going and make sure you ask them at least one question too about the monuments or where to park. They hate it!
Anyway, maybe if a managers read this they’ll get some training courses in place for them.
So definitely worth the visit and so close to the motorway too, you can’t miss it.

Nothing to say about the storich beauties you see... but everything else is to be redone, a shame. 12 euros an afternoon entrance to enter an archaeological site completely left to fend for itself, none of the staff inside (except in the air-conditioned ticket office!) 2.50 euros to use an internal shuttle to the site to avoid 25 minutes of abundant walking in the sun. No refreshment points, no means of communicating with the ticket office in case of illness on the top site, no attendants along the routes. Plus... 3.50 euros for a brochure on the site that should be given away... things that abroad, where they have very little to show does not exist at all and children up to 25 years are mostly also exempt from payment... Here, even the little ones pay... to see then... little or nothing... little valued and little cared for. The only thing that interests is to monetize and organize events within the park always and only for a fee. Truly a great disappointment and little love for their land and people. Never again!

Nice site. That's all. Covid measures are there somehow, with discretion of the employees. You ll need to pay for the bus from the parking to the entrance 5 EUR, but no transportation service is available to the theatre . This does not make any easy when you are pregnant, with a physical disability or if you have children.

Not as crowded as the Valley of the Temples so you can get amazing photographs of both the temple and the amphitheater. Once you secure ticketing, it is a relatively short walk up to see the temple. Steps and a relatively steep incline lead up to the temple so be prepared to handle steps and the heat. Once you are at the temple, the views and the structure are awe inspiring. There is a small plaque near the temple which gives context for the temple in case you came to the site without any clue about the history.
If young and so inclined, you can walk up the hillside to see the amphitheater ruins, or you can take the shuttle bus. The amphitheater is stellar, and maybe the views of the surrounding valley even more so. The Greeks sought out sites for the theaters that provided breathtaking backdrops, and here is a perfect example of that achievement. We loved the experience of sitting in the theater as if we owned the show. There may have been one other group here during the time of our visit so we nearly had the place to ourselves. Be advised that the shuttle bus is slow to pick you up and apparently around 2 pm, the driver takes a bit of a break. No big deal because the views will keep you occupied.
There are restrooms and shops at the ticketing entrance to keep you hydrated and occupied. You can easily see the entire historical site in less than 2 hours including getting a drink or 2 and taking all your photos. I highly recommend a stop here especially to engage in the ancient history of Sicily.

Does anyone know what bus you can get from Palermo to Segesta? Thanks
Written March 23, 2023
Have booked a day trip for here and Erice but it says we only get an hour in Segesta. Is that enough as from what I'm reading I don't think it is. Thanks

Hi, thank you for your great review, it has already helped us in planning our upcoming car trip to sicily and more specifically the segesta part of the trip. We would like to ask, since it wasnt clear for us in google maps, the exact location of the parking lot. Is it close to the ticket office? In a youtube video someone says they had to take two buses, one from the parking lot to the ticket office and than another one to the temples and that has got us even more confused about (1) where should we head to for parking and also (2) how much time will this visit take. We tend to do things independently and is a fast pace and all this buses seems so time consuming....
Written May 22, 2022
The parking lot is 200 meters down the road from the ticket office. There is no bus and none is required. Remember, the main parking lot by the ticket office is now closed to visitors. Once you buy your ticket, you walk uphill a few hundred meters to the temple. There is no bus to the temple. The only bus runs from the snack bar area near the ticket office up to the amphitheater which is about 1.5 km. My recommendation: arrive at the ticket office by 8:50am to be first in line for the 9am opening. Then walk up to the temple. Walk back and take the 9:30am bus to the amphitheater. Then walk downhill back for more temple views and colorful wildflowers. This way, you can avoid the crowds at both sights. In summary, there is only one bus -- up to the amphitheater and it leaves every half hour both ways. There are no other buses and none are needed.
