Some masterpieces of Maria Lai are on exhibition in this small, former train station of Ulassai. The guided tour was excellent. Worth visiting !

In the middle of Sardinia is one of the coolest art museums you'll ever see. It was under 10e to enter (maybe 5) and it came w/ a guided tour. The young gentleman who escorted us around clearly cared about what he was showing. He went into detailed explanations of some of her more complicated pieces. His English wasnt perfect but w/ our limited Italian we understood. Her pieces are incredible. Didnt realize she had been featured at Venice's Biennale this year. Her use of yarn and fabric is like nothing we'd ever seen. If you are anywhere near the museum, and if you at all like art, this is a must. We came from Santa Maria Navaresse and had no trouble finding it

Even though it was out of season when we visited in late February this year, we were treated to a superb tour of this jewel in the crown of the Province of Ogliastra. Nothing was rushed and we were able to take in the wonderful art of Maria Lai. Discover and you will be blown away by the media used to convey limitless expressions. It truly moved us and drew us in completely and at once loved her style. It's an experience that must be seen, rather than read about. A guide round he factory was also a wonderful experience meeting and talking to the talented ladies who carry on the art of Maria Lai. Visit the shop at the end and your pockets will be delightfully lighter.

The place where the museum is located is breathtaking, it breaks your breath in two, chosen by the artist in an old disused station for narrow gauge trains, towards Cagliari and vice versa, a place of arrivals and departures.

Inside, the works of the artist Maria Lai envelop you despite yourself: evocative, daughters of the territory, broad and universal. The reference to Alfredino Rampi in the via crucis is powerful and moving, one of the installations present in one of the rooms of the museum, the most significant in my opinion, the installation follows a vertical line to the bowels of the earth. The meaning of the asemantic writing present in some works is refined and playful, of what cannot be read as it is meaningless, but fully grasped with other reading codes that our guide interpreted and explained perfectly.

The experience is completed by the guides of the Art Station, Claudia in our case, competent, prepared and passionate, who introduced us to the person beyond the artist, an intimate and unprecedented Maria.

Visit Ulassai, bond with the mountain and come and say hello to Maria Lai or "little goat", as her father affectionately called her, it's worth it, it's always worth it.

Thanks to Claudia, to the guides present.
