Awesome Day
We got there early 1330 hours
When you come into Sanlucar follow the signs for Centra Cuidad, then Playa
When you hit the beach road go left its one way go right to the end of the beach where you see some huge White Marquees and Tents , parking here all Day 2 euros !!
You can enter the tented area , to drink Eat , Bet Sit in Grandstand for 12 Euros per person. Kids. Under 10 Free.
Remember though the races don't start till after 6 depending on the tide ,

The beach and promenade are 2300 metres long numerous beach bars along the way
Wide soft sand beach , showers , clean toilets
The course marshals then put up some plastic fencing along the tide line of the beach at about 1730 to protect the course

The local police turn up blowing whistles to get everyone out of the sea and behind the fence
The race horses then trot down from the tented area so everyone get s a great view prior to the race ??
There are programmes given out prior around the beach area
There are four races pretty much every 45 mins after the first at 1800
The beach is packed bearing mind it's a Sunday also you think you could walk the length on the top the beach umbrellas !!!!

The local kids set up little betting stalls on the beach paying out in sweets !!!!

We stood on the boardwalk which is elevated from the beach and had a great view as the horses raced by

It is just like racing at home as the day wore on people were parading up and down the promenade very clammed up mixing easily with bikini clad locals ,

There are horse drawn carriages offering tours of the promenade and town starting at 25 euros !!

Lots of beach side bars and after 2000 the town itself comes alive with fun fairs bars , pony rides , stalls etc all a couple of roads back from the beach

What was encouraging even tho this was a big event the bars and stalls don't appear to cash in and overcharge !!!!

A long day but something we don't get in the U K

So get yourself there they also race

13, 14, 15 August

Also if you pay to enter the tented area you get to see the horses in the paddock , and the whole race can be seen on a big screen
And also as far as I saw the only betting area ,

Last race is about 2100 hours
The horses are defiantly thoroughbred and race the whole 2300 metres the finish line is. By the grandstand at the tented area !!

What a fantastic day out at this gorgeous beach side town , the whole area comes out to enjoy the horse racing on the wide expanse of flat sand when the tide is out. Remember the Spanish are rightly proud of there horses so this is proper racing, the local kids set up there own betting shops on the beach made out of huge cardboard boxes , betting sweets not money. Great to see , get there early to enjoy the carnival atmosphere and secure a parking spot plenty of back streets free of charge. Take a ride in one of the horse drawn carriages along the esplanade , settle down with a chilled Fino the area is renowned for this watch the races then enjoy the sunset. Check local guides for times and dates oh and if you like horses the races are fantastic !!! Don't miss it
