Staying at the Chez Paula gite at the Clos de Caveau was an unforgettable experience. Walking through the vinyard to the villages of Gigondas and Vaqueras, on the doorstep, made us feel part of the day to day life of the area. We got to drink the excellent wine enabled by the unique geology of the Dentelles towering in the background and learnt about how it is made from Henri the owner and genial host.
It was a great base for visiting the historic towns in the Vaucluse area like Vaison, Avignon and Orange and being within easy reach of the Chauvet caves and the Pont du Gard meant that we were never short of a day trip.
We loved it so much we extended our weeks vacation.

We had an excellent experience at Le Clos de Caveau. Damien and Marylou gave us a tour of the winery, and showed us many aspects of the vines and the winemaking process. The Cotes-du-Rhone region is a fascinating area for wines, and they were expert and very friendly and knowledgeable. We did not have a lot of pre-existing experience with wine tastings, and they met us where we were at, meaning that the wine tasting was very fun. Damien also prepared a lovely lunch for us. We would highly recommend visiting Le Clos de Caveau.

Absolutely brilliant experience. Lovely wines to suit varied tastes. We cycled up to the beautiful setting through a pine woodland and vineyards. Our French is poor but they spoke English and we muddled through. Couldn’t buy many bottles as we were on bikes but gladly would have done if possible.

Excellent guided tour and tasting. Our host Damien was brilliant - knowledgeable, friendly and keen to answer our many questions. We enjoyed the tasting and bought wine to take her me. Recommended to visit.

I can only confirm all the wonderful things written by the other reviewers but add the the host, Henri, is utterly charming and extremely helpful. We had 3 generations in our party that stayed for one week in the gite 'Le Mas des Bergines' and we all loved it. The pool was a wonderful respite from the heat, the gite had a rustic charm but all the mod cons you could wish for (and helpfully all the little bits like dishwasher tabs, washing powder, tea, coffee, olive oil, etc that are so useful on a short stay) and most of all the wine is the best you will sample in Vacqueyras - make room in your car for as much as you can take home!

not to mention great wines ! 5 years' of annual visits to the various parts of the South of France and our 1st time in the Rhone Valley. Jean Francoise was very welcoming and explained quite simply the nuances of wine making in this domaine; and in general this part of France which made the visit something we would want to repeat in the future !

Clos de caveau is not only a very good place (or probably the best place) where to buy Vacqueyras wine, there is a well 2 guest houses (gites).
We spent a week there. The place is lovely located in the middle of the vineyard, very quiet (the only "disturbance" comes from the cicadas, so typical from Provence), the nearest neighbour is probably half a mile away.
You can share your time between the swimming pool, walking to 'Les Dentelles de Montmirail' and visiting the area. It was for us to refuel our batteries!
Henri, the wine maker and host, was very kind in sharing all the good places and things to be done.

We simply recommand!

Clos de Caveau was one of the major highlights of our two-week trip to France. Even though we were the only two people in the tasting room on a gloomy Friday, we were greeted with warmth and kindness. Damien did such an amazing job explaining the vineyard & its agricultural practices, the soil types and how all of these factors play into the wines that they produce. The level of hospitality is unparalleled, and I would recommend this vineyard to any wine enthusiast that wants to have a true French/Rhone wine experience. We want to go back right now! Thank you, Damien!

Tranquil and vast grounds composed primarily of scenic vineyards. The gite I stayed in was a beautifully rendered historic quarters, minimalist with attention to detail, touches of modern comfort. The estate offers free wine tastings (plus rooms/ gites/ apartments for rent if you want) and you can purchase the estate wine at a discount. From the property there are a lot of walking and biking opportunities- such as to Les Dentelles de Montmirail & towns of Gigondas & Vacqueyras by foot, the Ventoux can be biked (incredible & famous cycling area). If you are a wine lover, there are tons and tons of vineyards an easy & beautiful car ride away: Even Chateauneuf du page is only 20 or so min away by car. A lovely place to stay or visit!
