We visited the winery for an afternoon of wine tasting, 2 whites and 2 reds, in a nice undercover area of the vineyard. The grounds of the winery are stunning, set high up on the hill with beautiful gardens, and excellent view of the lake.
The wine was not to my taste and I am not a red drinker, however I was happy to sit and sip the whites, and enjoy the atmosphere.Nuts were served on the side to go with our wine. There was also a beautiful swing in amongst the garden.
After wine tasting we made our way around the garden and in for dinner. Outside it was standing room only in the best part of the restaurant that had the sunset view, so were and to sit inside, until we grabbed a table quickly when someone left. Outside is the place to be but get in early to grab a table.
The food was delicious, the view stunning - only thing was some very rowdy backpackers that had been enjoying the wine the whole afternoon continued to sing out loud while we had dinner. Mostly travellers taking in the view and having fun.
Meals were cheap and wonderful, sunset went down way too fast, friendly and helpful staff. It is a must visit!!

Red Mountain Winery is in a gorgeous setting and the grounds and gardens are lovely BUT the wine is DISGUSTING. Having said that, we spent a pleasant hour or two here watching the sun set over the hills and mountains and tried the tasting flight, which was very inexpensive (just as well).
Missable, really.

My partner and I rented bicycles from our hotel and rode to the winery. Whilst the views were beautiful, the wine didn't suit my western palate. That being said, 5000 kyat for the wine tasting menu was reasonable and a vineyard in Myanmar was unexpected and therefore intriguing to us. We would have liked a little tour of the vineyard or more information on its history.

The Red Mountain Estate is a beautiful vineyard with stunning scenery. The wine tasting is great value. You get to taste a Sauvignon Blanc, a Muscat, a Shiraz & a Pinot Noir, all for under £3.00! Cycle there from Nyaungshwe for a great experience!

This is a beautiful vineyard so relaxed and easy to walk around and look at. The staff are very informative and willing to answer all questions, they have a lovely little shop and restaurant plus another area for wine tasting which is just beautiful. I'd advise going early, we did and there was nobody there, so we had the whole place to walk around and enjoy the view all to yourself. We went about 10am.

I was so looking forward to the wine-tasting.
I have visited many wine estates in many countries all over the world and enjoyed all of them. If only there was one decent wine, it would have been okay, just a matter of taste.
We had 4 samples, 2 whites and 2 reds. They all had this peculiar smell of mosquito repellent and cheap whiskey, and I was not wearing any repellent. This made it difficult to enjoy the taste. How disappointing !!
All the effort to come and visit this place for nothing.
What also did not help was the ambiance. Maybe just unlucky. No reception, a lot of back packers smoking cigarettes and talking loudly. Nobody to give you any information about the wines. We asked if we could try a better wine, but this was it. Really too bad.

Cool weather in end Jan. Big open space and have a 4 wines tasting which cost 5000kyats. Quality and taste was great. As it is not harvest season no chance to see the production process. But the views were relaxing and nice ! Go for it

We found this place just traveling around Inle Lake area. What a wonderful find! The wines were surprisingly good, staff excellent and the views glorious! I will come here every time I'm in the area - and I'm not a big wine guy.

We made a reservation to do a wine tasting at 5pm. We arrived on time only to be told they did not have a place for us. They offered that we could sit on the grass until a seat became available. Terrible experience. Poor service. Would not recommend

This winery offers the best view of Nyaungshwe from the ground. It is situated high on a hill overlooking the area. I had the flight of four wines, which were mediocre, but the wonderful service of the staff more than made up for the lacklustre wine experience. I would return here to enjoy the view.

Is it hard to find the way to get there? We stay near Inle lake.

It's well signposted off the road. But care needed to ensure you don't miss the sign, especially if you have been wine tasting at Red Mountain beforehand. :-)

Hi we are going to Nyang Shwe in January, not on a tour, independent couple, but would like to visit the winery, how much would a cab cost, & would we have to book in advance?
Thanks Cath

1. Booking in advance is not really necessary.
2. I do not know how much it would cost to take a cab. My random estimate is it could not be more than Kyats 5,000 (less than US$ 5) from downtown Nayung Shwe (Yawnghwe). That is for one way and if you need a roundtrip it will depend how many hours you are going to spend in the winery. The rough estimate, again, is Kyats 10,000 per hour.
