We have done Grasshopper tours throughout SE Asia and love them. They always do a unique adventure and something just a little different.
We did the biking (about 25km) and then kayaking. It was a full day and well worth it.
We had 4 kids ages 9,7,5,3. The 9 and 7 year old rode their own bikes and then I had a tag along on the back for the 5 year old and my wife had a baby seat for our 3 year old.
The biking was a combo of road and through the villages. Flat ride but very interesting. I also notice that depending on your group make up they can tailor the ride to be longer or more technical.
The food stops along the way were delicious, local and off the beaten path...true Grasshopper fashion.
Our tour guide was great (Joe) and he was a local so very well informed. So local that on our tour he showed us his high-school and house.
Great trip, totally recommend.

We had a splendid day biking around Inle Lake area. Our guide Sam and his mechanic were enthusiastic and every detail of the day had been planned carefully in advance. We biked through rice fields and small towns and tasted local dishes in various small family-run restaurants. When we reached the lake, both the bikes and us were loaded to a small boat and the journey continued. We also did some kayaking at the end of the day. The scenery and landscape were so picturesque that an extra memory card was needed for the camera.
We were a group of adults and school-aged kids and this was the best day adventure ever for all of us!

Dear SonjaV1235,
Very appreciated to receive this so supportive review and happy to know that you enjoyed our program accompanied by our excellent guide, “Sam”.
The scenery around the lake is very unique as every turn can treat you with colorful views of fields and farms based on the season you visited. Plus, a combination of biking and kayaking is another way to uplift your experience more memorable.
We hope to see you again and can’t wait to share more of our journey with you soon.
Take care and regards,
Win.

For a little extra, we were picked up from our hotel in the morning and brought to the start point. Everyone received water, helmets and an overview of our day. Five us plus our guide George headed out for a leisurely bicycle ride through the lakeside villages, stopping to watch how candy was made from sugar cane and tasting local snacks. The boat ride was comfortable and serene, with opportunities to see the local fisherman at work. Everything was organized and paced well. The last boat trip took us to one of the old towns built on stilts on the lake, simply amazing. We had a delicious home made lunch there, and then kayaked around a little after. Everything was enjoyable. George's English was sometimes challenging (bat vs bird) but it added to the charm. Our first trip with Grasshopper and we'll surely use them again on our travels!

We did 5 Grasshopper tours in Myanmar and this was our favourite. It was possibly our favourite day in Myanmar. This is an all-in-one taste of the Inle Lake area. It's relaxing, shady, very scenic with a variety of terrain and activities. Our guide, Sam, was very considerate of everyone's abilities, explained the local way of life, and stopped at scenic spots for photos. We rode alongside rice paddies, next to canals, through bamboo forests, over bamboo bridges, and beside various types of plantations including flowers, watermelon, chilli, garlic, and tomatoes, among others. Paths ranged from bitumen, dirt, sand, gravel, and grass. We visited family plantations to learn about the traditional method of production and stopped by "snack village" where we sampled many tasty offerings. We high-fived many happy children while cycling past, and took a boat ride away from the tourists by a local village with floating tomato gardens before enjoying a delicious lunch with multiple dishes. After, we kayaked quietly through another floating village. It was a perfect day.

This was an excellent leisurely tour (for those who are fit) of the local area and culture. We were able to see all the different types of farming going on, a local market, local candy making, and a lot more. We really enjoyed the Shan noodle lunch and our guide Joe was very pleasant. I was even able to get some photography in on the way back of the traditional fishermen.

I have booked trips before with Grasshopper Adventures whilst travelling in Thailand and Cambodia so I was delighted to discover that they had recently opened a shop in Nyaung Shwe.
After being kitted out with a mountain bike, we soon left behind the traffic and the tourists in the town and headed out towards the countryside. It wasn't long before we left the main road and began following the red dirt trail that ran alongside a small canal that took us out into the countryside. We had to stop on a couple of occasions to allow for ox drawn carts to pass and I began to see a different side of Myanmar. We stopped on a couple of occasions to talk to the locals; at one place we were invited to share tea with the villagers who were preparing for celebrations later that week when seven young boys of the village would enter the local monestery. Joe, my guide, was brilliant translating backwards and forwards as we spent time with the locals.
Soon we were onto the next stage of the tour as we arrived in one of the villages where much of the local food was produced. It was fascinating to see the food that we eat in the restaurants being traditionally made in the village. I watched the making of bread, molasses, sesame seed crackers, tofu as well as the production and distillation of the local sake and the milling of rice. It was fascinating to watch and it gave me a real appreciation for the food that I had been enjoying on my trip.
After stopping for snacks of the crackers that I had seen been made earlier along with a couple of the local Shan salads, we put the bikes onto a long-tailed boat and took a short trip across part of the lake before heading out by bike again. We first cycled through bamboo forests before heading out onto much narrower tracks. Two nights of heavy rain meant that the tracks were very muddy and flooded in places but it was great fun peddling out through the paths between the paddy fields. It was interesting to see the rice crops at the different stages of production.
Eventually, the bike section of the day came to an end and we arrived at a traditional Shan house on the lake for lunch. We then had a lovely lunch that consisted of traditional Shan dishes before embarking on the final part of the trip, kayaking through some of the backwaters of Lake Inle where we visited a small fishing village and one of the temples. We then made our way back to Nyaung Shwe on the long tailed boat watching the sunset on the lake.
It was a brilliant end to a brilliant day and one that I will treasure the memories of for a long time.

Thank you so much for this rather amazing five star review of our "Bike, Boat and Kayak Tour" at Inle Lake. You really seem to have enjoyed your day and taken everything from it that we would have hoped - everything from some rather adventurous cycling to trying typical foods and paddling around stilt villages with the locals. As you know, the shop had not been open long before you visited and you were one of the first to try the tour so it's even more pleasing for us all that it was such a successful day. Thank you once again and I hope to hear that you've been on another Grasshopper Adventure one day soon!

We did "Bike, Boat and Kayak" full day tour. We definitely enjoyed this experience, biking around the lake through the countryside to see village life and to visit beautiful rural places was an amazing experience. Our guide was courteous and knowledgeable and he spoke good English. He took us to see sugar cane factory, floating gardens and tried some local food at a very good home restaurant, then off to see some local families. We were able to see the real village life and majestic views around the Inle Lake. Grasshopper provides good bikes and helmet. We highly recommend this tour as one of must do while being in area around Inle Lake.

If you want something different in Inle, this is definitely the tour to go for. A good snapshot of Inle Lake if you are short of time. Everything was well planned and executed. Excellent mountain bikes, helmets and water provided. We had two guides that day, Soe Soe and Moe Moe, one in the front and the other at the back so we were well covered from a safety standpoint.
We cycled through stunning countrysides and local villages. Managed to see a few cottage industries like sugarcane, nuts and crackers. Snack stop along the way was excellent with salads, tea, crackers and local rice wine. Next we transferred on to longboats for a ride across Inle Lake and continued our biking on the southern part of the lake through more fascinating countryside. Lunch was provided at the house by the river - great local food of salads, noodles and other snacks.
Kayaks were launched from the lunch stop. Kayaked for about an hour through villages and the main waterways. We were probably an attraction ourselves as locals and tourist stopped were taking photos of us kayaking across Inle! The tour ended with a boat right on the Lake in the sunset - the light was truly magical and we caught a glimpse of the famous fishermen on the lake.
Highly recommended experience. The cycling was not challenging and should suit any recreational cyclist well. Guides were friendly and informative and they made sure I made it back in time for my overnight bus out of Inle. Thank you Grasshopper!

After the nice cycling tour we had in mandalay with our guide sun we booked the 3 adventure full day tour along inle lake guided by san & phyo. Verdict; we did it right. The tour takes you to georgeous places around the lake, including palmsugar farm, a ricepancake factory ( to say so) by bike, for about 20 km on hidden trails. Part 2 is a positioning boatride for another 5 km workout on bikes ( high quality mountainbikes) and finally a thrilling kayak tour for about 1 hour on double seater kayaks through the watervillage on the south end of lake inle. Honestly the hours run by like nothing with a good mix of beeing sporty and brief information about the life on the lake, farming and the society. San our guide was local so i knew what he was telling us. I must also say, the food we could taste on the way and for lunch was phantastic. I fall in love with the tea leave salad and the myanmar chicken soup. Another plus, upon reqeuest they gave us a 10% discount as repeater )))) on the second trip we booked with grasshopper. also very comfy for us, on the way back the boat dropped us of directly at the sofitel jetty. Booking and payment was serious and reliable. Thanks all the grasshoppers behind the stage who made this day so special.

We had a one day cycle and kayak tour with our guide Sam. Cycling was mainly off road. Beautiful countryside. Sam was very knowledgeable of the surrounding area. The terrain was moderate difficulty. We stopped regularly so he could show us how the locals made some of the produce such as sticky rice steamed in bamboo, doughnuts and rice crackers. The bikes were good quality. At the end of the cycle ride we had an amazing lunch at a local Shen family house. We then went on a Kayak around the floating villages. Overall, an amazing day which exceeded our expectations. We would definitely recommend this excursion to anyone who visits Inle Lake. Thank you Sam!

Dear Col_Ali_36,
Thank you for your 5-star review and your kind comments about our guide Sam.
He is always very proud to show his culture and the area to visitors and I am happy to read that you enjoyed his company and tour. Shan food is very divers and we like to spoil our customers with all different kind of eateries on the way.
Thank you for joining our tour and please let us know, if you are up to a new Grasshopper Adventure anywhere in Southeast Asia.
Have a nice onward journey

Would I be able to catch the bike boat and kyak tour on the same day I arrive at Nyaung Shwe? I will be travelling from Yangon to Nyaung Shwe by JJ Express and the bus is expected to arrive at 5:30 a.m. Thanks

Hi Phyllissa, yes it’s possible as the tour doesn’t leave our shop until 07.45 and we’re not far from the bus station. If you’re lucky you might be able to go and freshen up beforehand at a nearby hotel (try the Maine Li Hotel - it’s very close, very clean & nice and great value for money).

I would like to book this tour. I will be at Nyaung Shwe February 22 and 23 (Wed and Thurs). I am traveling alone. Is it possible to join a group on either of those days?

Hi there, we currently have two tours on offer from our shop in Nyaung Shwe however I'm guessing that you are referring to the "Bike, Boat and Kayak Tour"? This tour runs every day (even with just one person) so you can book on either day via our website. The other tour (Mountains and Lake Bike Adventure) needs a minimum of two for it to run. Thanks for your interest and hope to see you soon!

Hi there, yes there is every chance that you will see fishermen while on this tour. You will be using our long-tail boat three times during the tour and on each occasion it is highly likely that you will pass fishermen. Of course I can't actually guarantee it, but you'd have to be very unlucky indeed to miss them altogether!
