There are not a lot of good options if you are visiting Salina for the day and would like to rent a car. My wife and I spent the day on Salina and prior to arriving, I looked for rental car options on the island. About a month before arriving I contacted Rent Bongiorno via email and they got back to me within 24 hours. Told them what I was looking for and they quoted me a price for a Smart car. It was a bit expensive for a 1-day rental, €80,00. We had the car less than 6 hours when we were on the island, so it was really expensive. When we arrived we walked from the ferry to Rent Bongiorno in about 3 or 4 minutes. It's in a good location. When we got there, there were a lot of people in the building trying to rent motorbikes and other vehicles. There was one worker there that could speak English and she helped us complete all the paperwork and get us on our way. She told us that we would need to fill the car up with gas prior to going anywhere on the island. She said it would only need to be filled up with €10,00 worth of gas. When we went outside they brought the car to us. One of the workers washed the front window for us with a dirty rag, which was nice of him. It helped to remove some of the dust that was on the windshield and smear it into the glass. I then proceeded across the street to get gas. Turned the car off while the nice man filled it with €10,00 of petrol. We then proceeded to the next nearest town for some lunch at Da Alfredo, which I recommend. We were there for about 45 minutes or so and then left to drive around the island. We stopped along the way for about 20 minutes at a Catholic Church (Santuario Santa Maria del Terzito) and when I went back to start the car it wouldn't start. We called Rent Bongiorno for help and they couldn't locate anyone who spoke English, so they hung up on us. Eventually, a couple from Germany on vacation came by the church that spoke English and could speak a little Italian to help us call Rent Bongiorno. A man from Rent Bongiorno came out to look at the car and he immediately told us there was a button on the car key that needed to be pushed first before we could start the car. It was nice that he came out so quickly, but it would have been nice if someone told us this before leaving or when our German friends were on the phone with them. Anyway, just a heads up to anyone who rents a smart car here to push the button on the key before attempting to start the car. This information is my gift to you. :-) The car did the job for the remainder of our time on the island and helped us get around. I really can't recommend Rent Bongiorno, but they really are the only convenient rental company on the island. I think there are two other rental places, but they weren't able to rent to us or respond to my inquiries. So I can't imagine they are much better and they were not located where the ferry stops. On a final note, I had to wire Rent Bongiorno the 1-day rental fee prior to being able to reserve the car. It all was a bit of a pain given what I got and how many cars were available when we got there. Finally, the car was filthy and smelly inside, not something I would expect after paying €80,00 for it. Salina is a beautiful island, worth visiting and I highly recommend visiting the island. I would just find an alternative to getting around the island.

We got a scooter for 5 days. Good scooter, good helmets. Friendly staff and good service! If you have troubles you can call, doesn't matter what time it is and they even pick you up the last day to get your luggage! (plan enough time if you have to catch the ferry, we had to wait 20 minutes)

Car was dirty and damaged. No fuel and drove badly, we thought it would break down. To top it off they charged us twice, still trying to reclaim the additional payment.
