We found this place by accident while visiting Cefalu. It is fabulous in that it is rich in history and views of the area. One of the staff named Carmelo was just stellar! He gave us a personal tour and was so kind to us. This man is a gem, and has worked there for 30 years and knows EVERYTHING about it. The site needs more tourist investment by the government so they can really turn it into a showcase of Sicilian/Siculian/Greek history.

Well signposted from the motorway. Although on a hillside, it is easy enough to get around. This was originally a Siculian city and submitted to the Romans in the First Punic war. It is not a particularly large site, but has some very interesting features. Firstly, the site museum, although tiny, has a very rare bronze dedicatory tablet from the Temple of Apollo. We were shown around the museum by a very enthusiastic guardian. The highlights of the site are the agora, which has replica statues in the niches, and the remarkable columbarium with its diamond-patterned stonework. Sadly, much of the site is neglected, although where there is signage, it is very informative. Worth visiting for that alone.

Little publicized archaeological excavations, too bad because they are a very interesting testimony... made so also thanks to the explanations received from a good and engaging archaeologist, Francesco, who catapulted us into the various ages with intriguing stories about honor plates, cadastral inscriptions and remains of statues of gods. Maria Cristina and Raffaele.
