Arguably Stari Grad’s most famous building, a medieval residence built by a famous Croatian poet. Entrance is 4 euros after which you can roam at leisure around the site. The central cloister surrounding the fish pool is very nice and there are small slightly unkempt gardens. The visit will last about 30 minutes. Croatia has quite of similar attractions, I.e. historical buildings in great condition that just need a bit more information and content to make them must see attractions. But definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

At the western tip of the old quarter is Tvrdalj, the residence of the Renaissance poet Petar Hektorovic, author of the famous work Ribanje i ribarsko prigovoranje (Fishing and Fishermen's Talk), in which he vividly describes a fishing trip to the islands of Hvar, Brac and Solta . You pay US$5.00 per person to enter, but it's well worth it, as in addition to the historic building, right at the entrance there is a fish pool, whose water is absolutely crystal clear! The place is incredible for beautiful photos. It is also possible to stroll in the small garden and visit the terrace. You can't go to Stari Grad, in Hvar and not pass by this place. You just have to pay attention to the closing time at 2pm.

Our Local guide brought us to Stari Grad – one of the oldest towns in Europe and a UNESCO-Protected World Heritage Site. We visited the 16th century castle of the Croatian renaissance poet Petar Hektorović, built to defend against the Turks and the most famous building in Stari Grad. Stari Grad is charming and quaint, and located on the quieter side of Happening Hvar in Charming Croatia.

Our group of four arrived in Stari Grad earlier than expected, and the top recommended spot to visit was the so-called Fortress of Petar Hektorović. It turned out to be a large stone house and walled garden once owned by a noted Croat poet. It's normally open in the afternoons by appointment, but they had several tour groups and so were open. We thought it was worth €4 apiece to spend an hour admiring the cool architecture (mainly from the outside), including a lovely fish pond, and the lush gardens.

The poet, Petar Hektorovic dedicated all his life to his fortress. The fish pond subsists in the original form. The garden is stunning, you are in the middle of the city but you feel you like in a big park. There are some interesting carved inscriptions in the house.

A must visit for only 20 kuna. It was like an oasis. Despite the high temperatures outside, the place was pretty cool and you could sit by the pond and read a book or take poetic pictures. I saw that there were some small tours going on. It is really small and you can see everything in 3 minutes. But it was worth it.

Such history at this old castle, still occupied by ancestors of its original owner. Not a lot to see, but great for pictures by the pond and in the garden and enjoy the history and poetic ambiance. Took less than 20 minutes to walk around.

This place is definitely worth a visit whilst you're in Stari Grad. Its garden is beautiful and very peaceful, especially the fish pond filled with mullet. There were also several different fruits growing in the well-presented gardens, including grapes, figs, limes and even pomegranates. It was wonderful soaking up the peaceful atmosphere for an hour or two.

Tvrdalj Castle is the old mansion of the famous Croatian poet Petar Hektorovic. It is located in Stari Grad, not too far from the old harbour. Could be a bit tricky to find, since it looks really just like any other old building from the outside. You must also be aware of the visiting hours, Tvrdalj is only open in the morning and during early evening, not in the afternoon. Once you're there, you have to pay a small entrance fee and right away, you're at the famous fish pond, which is located in the middle of the old stone cloister of the mansion. This is really beautiful and spectacular, quiet a unique experience with real fish swimming around in the pond. Behind the cloister, there is a huge medieval mediterranean garden with lots of plants and old artifacts. Walking around here is also worth the entry fee. All in all, this is a hidden gem of Hvar that should not be missed.

Sziasztok! :)
Esetleg egy nyitvatartási időt tudna valaki írni, hogy mikor látogatható a kastély hétköznapokon? :)
Előre is köszönöm! :)
