This is a lovely idea for a present, and I was given it as a joint present for my father's birthday and myself (50th) for June 2021. But I would strongly advise not to pre-book, and just buy tickets on the day if the weather allows. It might even be cheaper.

On the first attempt, unfortunately, it rained and low cloud cover meant flights were not possible, but Classic Wings are good at letting you rebook, and a day at the War Museum was good even if the day was a disappointment.

I rebooked, and added a ticket for my daughter which was not cheap. In September unfortunately it rained again and at this point - not wanting to do a 3rd trip to Duxford, and having spent a lot on transport to get there twice, i asked for a refund. There was just a flat rejection. They point to the terms and conditions (no refunds allowed, I'm one of those who don't read T and Cs when I buy a present) and they refused to reimburse, even one ticket for my daughter.

They have not delivered on a service (twice), which is not their fault (it's the weather) but not mine either, but they are up by hundreds of pounds and I'm down by more than, given transport costs, with little wish to "enjoy the experience" at a 3rd attempt.

Having never flown before, I decided to make my first flight an interesting one, so booked a flight in a Rapide where a Spitfire comes alongside. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience from start to finish, and the staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. As a keen amateur photographer, I was keen to get some good pictures of the Spitfire, and how they bring the Spitfire alongside facilitates that. The Spitfire also performed a few sweeping moves, which was very good for those with cameras and those just watching. I was concerned that the wing structure of the rapide would hinder photography, but I needn't have worried and some of my best pictures were taken through the wing. I would recommend this experience for anyone who wants to fly alongside a Spitfire, and for anyone with a camera who wants to get some good air to air pictures.

Took a Tiger Moth flight via Virgin Experiences. The plane, pilot and flight were wonderful. It was exhilarating to have the wind blowing around you and to feel the g-forces of the plane as it turned and landed. I wasn't expecting to take the controls. It was great. I was pleased to hear they recorded the flight and you could take the experience home with you. However, the £50 for the recording on an SD card is too much and it felt a bit like price gouging.

Come on Classic Wings, SD cards and webcams aren't that expensive any more

This is my second review for Classic Wings, this time I am reviewing the T6 Harvard flight.

A couple of years ago I decided I would like to do something that was a little bit outside my comfort zone. I had seen the Harvard at Duxford & thought it might be the very experience I was looking for. Then to my surprise my husband presented me with a 20 minute flight voucher for the Harvard. This was back in February 2020.

I finally got to take my flight last weekend. I have to admit I was quite nervous on the day, but the guys at Classic Wings are very friendly & Adrian (ground crew) was lovely & very reassuring. I watched a safety briefing then Adrian walked me out to the Harvard & helped me with my harness & headset.

I was introduced to my pilot Craig, & after a few minutes we were ready to go. Once we were airborne my nerves were forgotten. Craig pointed out some local landmarks, & then asked if I would like to take the controls or do some aerobatics. I wimped out of taking control but I wanted to do a roll. It was amazing, somebody who has seen my pic from the onboard video said " the smile says it all" my only regret is, I didn't ask if we could do a second one.
It was then time to make our way back to the airfield for a high speed, low level pass, before coming in to land. It was over all too soon.

I can highly recommend this experience. If you want to take the controls & do loops & rolls you can but if you don't it's not a problem. There is no pressure to try something that you are not comfortable with.

I would like to say a big thank you to both Adrian & Craig.

Would I do this again? You bet I would!

From start to finish this was such a memorable day. My husband flew in a Spitfire with pilot Steve Jones and was smiling the whole time :-) Although the flights were running a little behind the Classic Wings staff made sure we knew what was happening and were all really friendly and informative. Special thanks to Laura, Angela, Keith and Will. A once in a lifetime experience and well worth it. Thank you.

Really disappointed with the lack of empathy and greedy nature of the Classic Wings. My Daughters purchased a voucher for me for a Tiger Moth and Dragon Rapide flight for my 60th Birthday. This was in March 2020. Because of covid it was delayed until June this year. I was really looking forward to this, but quite late on the day before I was due to attend, I received a text message to say that there was a technical fault with the aircraft and the day was cancelled.

I would have thought that it would be far more courteous to have made a telephone call rather than just a blunt text message at such a late time. I had already booked a day off work and it was too late to cancel, so basically wasted a day off. I appreciate that there can be issues with aircraft, but it was very late to discover this and subsequently inform me.

I called the next day to rearrange my experience and asked what the problem with the aircraft was. The person I spoke to was not even aware there had been a fault and could not tell me which aircraft was faulty. I did mention that a text was not really an ideal way of communicating with people in these circumstances and received a half hearted apology and told that I had been sent an email too. Which was true but did not arrive until later that evening.

I re-booked for Sept and arrived at the venue on a lovely warm sunny day, quite excited and looking forward to my day. I have to say that I had my flight in the Tiger Moth which was very good and my pilot (Brian) was very accommodating and I thoroughly enjoyed this part of the day. The hard sell on the overpriced video was a little tedious on arrival at the base though. Any enjoyment of this aspect of the day was soon deflated by later events.

I was given a ticket to return later in the afternoon for my flight in the Dragon Rapide. I spent a couple of hours enjoying the museum and having some refreshments.

When I returned to the base there were several other guests waiting to be briefed etc for our flight. We were told to wait in the corner whilst the member of staff was doing his upsell of photos to the guests of the previous flight.

Once he had finally finished with that, he told us all that the wind was too strong and the aircraft would not be flying until it had dropped. Why another member of the team could not have told us this whilst the other chap was selling the photos I am not sure. There certainly seemed to be a lot of people inside doing very little other than chatting to one another. We were given a time to return and I asked if there was a possibility of a later flight as I had booked to look at the Lancaster with the museum. I did say that I would forfeit that in favour of retaining my flight, but in honesty I was given an alternative of an hour later.

I missed part of the Lancaster experience as I had to leave early to get back for my flight. When I arrived I was told that the day had been fully cancelled because of the wind. The chap who had booked my later trip knew that I was going to the Lancaster and could have texted me to let me know so that I didn’t miss part of that. This was not forthcoming and I was told that I would have to rebook again for my flight. I was also told I would be receiving an email with details of how to rebook etc. This email never arrived, yet another example of poor customer service and lack of empathy.

I left the museum rather disappointed.

The next day after talking it through with my family, I decided to ask for a refund. This had been going on for over 18 mths now and to make another journey to Duxford was another 250 mile plus round journey and yet another day holiday. Also there was always the possibility of this being cancelled yet again.

I sent a message to Classic Wings to ask for a refund and told that I could have one. The original price for the two flights was £199 and I assumed that the two experiences would be charged out equally at £99.50. I asked for a £99 refund.
I was told that I would only receive a £45 refund as the Tiger Moth flight is priced at £149 and the Dragon Rapid at £45. I did send a message straight back, questioning their maths, as 149 and 45 add up to 194 not 199!

I again got a half hearted apology and told it should be £50 not £45 and if I wanted to accept that it would have to be refunded on the card of the purchaser. I asked how they had arrived at those figures as there is no breakdown of figures when booking the flights. The Tiger Moth flight alone can be booked at £149 and the Dragon Rapide alone can be booked at £99. I have done some research and discovered that you can actually just turn up and if there are any spare seats on the Dragon Rapide, pay £45 for the flight that is bookable at £99. The £50 refund is a made up figure that Classic Wings are using to get away with not paying a fair refund. I wonder how little I would have received if the Tiger Moth had been faulty and I just had a flight in the Dragon Rapide. I doubt I would have received £149!

It seems that Classic Wings value revenue over customer satisfaction and have very little regards for how disappointing it can be for their guests when things are cancelled. Shame on you and your staff for leaving me feeling really disappointed and ripped off.

Had the most amazing experience with Classic Wings. A special 60th Birthday present for my husband. A flight in a Spitfire. From the first meeting with the team was completely faultless professional with a friendly relaxed approach that made the whole experience feel so very special. Not forgetting Jon Dodd the pilot that gave my husband an unforgetable memory. Thank you Classic Wings.

I flew in a Tiger Moth, which was a birthday present I was finally able to book, after all the lockdowns! It was absolutely fantastic, from start to finish, and I’d recommend it to anyone. Special thanks to John and Steve, my pilot/instructor. I hope to be back one day soon!

We also took the chance to spend the day in the excellent Duxford museum, so a full, great, day out! (I got a free ticket, others in my party got half-price.)

My wife and I have been lucky enough to have flown ( supersonically) on Concorde no less than 5 times, but the trip we made yesterday in the Dragon Rapide was as good if not better than Concorde. The whole experience was wonderful with excellent passenger service from the whole team at Classic Wings. My wife and I are in our 70's so not quite as old as the aircraft but were thrilled never the less. Well done and keep up the good work Classic Wings.
