Visited as part of the Leger Beer & Battlefields Tour. I believe there is an audio tour for this place, we had a guide who moved us through the museum and explained everything hops... The place is lovely but on several floors and as such for me with bad knees was difficult there is a lift but in places whilst standing and listening to the guide there was nowhere to sit and I was flagging somewhat.. The tour went on for quite some time and if I'm honest was a little too comprehensive and long even to the risk of boredom setting in. However, at the end of the tour we were treated to a nice tasting of beer in the bar on the opposite side of the courtyard.

I was expecting a rather small and limited display. After all, how much can you say about hops? Quite a lot apparently. We spent a couple of hours going through the three separate floors of this museum learning about the history of farming hops in the area, how they are used, and the lives of the hop farmers and workers over the years.

An interesting tour with an audio guide available in English. Lots of facts and folklore about hops. My family, who accompanied me under much protest, were impressed by the museum.
You start at the top, on the third floor, learning about folklore and religious attitudes towards hops, then make your way down through the other floors learning of hop horticulture, harvesting, processing, selling and usage. There is a toilet on site and parking in the town is quite reasonably priced. The novelty items and beer in the gift shop, however, were a bit over-priced.

The Beer Museum in Poperinge is certainly a must-see destination for beer lovers. However, the experience was somewhat marred by a welcome as warm as a flat beer. We were greeted by a student (?) whose smile was as hard to find as a bottle of craft beer out of stock. And to get an audio guide, we almost had to get on our knees, as if begging for one last sip of beer. Hopefully, just like the proper aging of a quality beer, the service will improve with time.

Tough nominally about the Hop Museum (interesting) this is more about the Poperinge Beer Festival which takes place in the town in late October every year.
20 local brewers (and I mean "local" - they're based within a 5 mile radius) display and sell there products in a hall just off the main square. For English drinkers the high strength of the beers and the resultant small glasses take some getting used to - but the beers are all good (some exceptional), there is food and music and a great party atmosphere.

Nice building, but rather boring expo. Not very interactive and OK how much is there to tell about hops ? 3 floors is overdoing the theme. Visit when there's nothing else left to do ?

We had low expectations but were pleasantly surprised. This is absolutely worth the visit and worth the 6€ entrance fee. Neat bit of history of the building, the industry and the town. Highly recommend. Takes about 2 hrs to go through with the self paced audio. All about the industry of hops and it’s history for the overall best beers in the world (Belgian).
