A Night In the Tower
Aug 2017
We were in Zdar nod Sazavou to visit the Santini masterpiece - the church at Zelany Hora. We stayed in the old monastery that has been converted into a hotel. Our rooms were in the tower. The staff was excellent and the rooms were very nice. I do not recommend staying in the tower if you have a mobility problem. Access is by spiral staircase with a rope for a hand rail. The grounds around the facility are very pleasant. It was a good experience.

Non-traditional modern exhibition, a journey thru baroque epoque with funny audioguide
Jan 2018
Modern exhibition for 21th Century visitors. Minimalist designed show-cases, video projections, full interactive exhibition - e.i. try to make a book on a screen from raw materials (leather - goat, ink - oak ball, quill - goose) it's real fun for children :) On ground floor there is a story of the Zdar monastery, 1st floor is a journey through the baroque epoque and its innovations and discoveries. Knowledge and facts are not so important, the exhibit affects the senses. Free audioguide available, not traditional - it's actually a child and an abbot dialogue. Worth the visit, 60 - 90 minutes approx.

Museum of experiences
Aug 2017
Absolutely fantastic interactive museum providing insights of Cistercian monks life.

You will also find explanations about the origin and architecture of St John's church located close to this place.

The great news is that the museum has Audio guides available in several languages and the place is fabulous for kids!

Enjoy :-)

Thank you for your review. We are delighted that you liked the Zdar estate. The Baroque art exhibition from the collections of the National Gallery in Prague is a permanent exhibition and is open all year round.

The whole complex of the monastery is renovated with the respect to the historical meaning of the place. At the same time, you are shown this in modern and interactive way, which attracts as kids as adults. There are activities in the museum, tours in/out-side of the complex and pleasant coffee place where one can easily enjoy the whole day. Come especially for Modern Dance Festival KORESPONDANCE in July!

Very interesting interactive museum
Jul 2017 • Family
Americans visiting the area with Czech friends, we stopped to see the monastery museum after visiting the nearby shrine. The museum was interesting and the English language narration made understandable what we had seen earlier as well as the history of the monastery itself. The multi media presentation of historical objects, narration, and music with lights and videos were very educational and understandable. It was a very enjoyable afternoon.

New Generation Museum
Mar 2017 • Family
I have visited the multi-media New Generation Museum in Zdar nad Sazavou with my family when we were traveling from Prague to the South Moravia. For foreign visitors it would make a sense to visit this Museum when they drive from Prague in direction to Vienna and/or Bratislava and make a sightseeing stop on the way. It is nearly 2 hours drive from Prague. I have heart many great things about this multi-media exposition depicting history of a former monastery, the story of the patron Saint John from Nepomuk (yes, it is the same St John from the Charles bridge in Prague where visitors make a secret wish by touching the statue...), Baroque architecture by the architect Santini...etc. I was amazed by the exhibition and love it from the beginning till the end. So artistic and the music was fantastic, too! I would like to know what is the music played when you press Nr.33 on the audio guide? I have listen to it again and again for at least 10 times! Once again - congratulations! It's a great piece of work!

Many thanks for this kind review. Without your input we cannot improve ourselves nor know what we are doing right, so many thanks, especially since you seem to be a guide and your feedback comes from a professional. Please do not hesitate to contact us on info@zamekzdar.cz if you have ideas of groups that you can take round the Unesco route (by car or bus : Kutna Hora - Zdar - Litomysl and back to Prague for example, or by train Kutna Hora - Zdar - Brno and back to Prague, etc.). We have a few ideas on how to do that and would welcome the chance to enable you to show to international tourists in Prague that there are other things in this country than the Old Town Square astronomical clock (even if I love this clock dearly). Kindest regards from sunny Zdar. C. Kinsky

Zámek Žďár nad Sazavou
Sep 2016 • Friends
Zámek Žďár and its New Generation Museum is an excellent example of the restoration and adaptation of castle complex for present and future generations. Survival of cultural heritage depends on the efforts of every generation to rediscover and reinterpret it.
The values heritage embodies in the era of challenges caused by globalisation and digitalisation are increasingly dependent on the ability to adopt cross-sectoral approaches to unlock its economic and social potential, turning heritage sites to engines of economic activity, cultural and social innovation. A crucial role in these processes plays a synergy between culture and tourism industry. The clear vision and all accomplished so far by Kinský’s family is very inspiring and definitely worth to visit.

Marvelous place to visit and interesting activities for all the family.
Jul 2015 • Family
The castle of Zdar is a former Cistercian and Baroque monastery with a very nice church set up in a beautiful countryside landscape. In the castle there is a very interesting museum, with activities for children. Close to the castle, at the top of a hill, you have to visit the marvelous church built by Santini.
