Avellanas beach is a 45 min drive from Tamarindo, Guanacaste. The road is not in good shape, a 4x4 is recommended. The beach has lots of space so you can get your own area, no one will disturb you. There is only one restaurant/bar that...More

It's not easy to get too - a few miles on a very bumpy dirt road - 4wd recommended! - but it's totally worth it. Great spot for surfing. Beach is uncrowded with lots of trees for shade and a terrific beach side restaurant- Lola's.

It was so much work just to get to this place. Perhaps during the busy season, it would be worth it to go here to avoid the crowds at Playa Tamarindo, but for us this was more trouble than it was worth.

Lola's its a nice beachfront restaurant to hang out but i think its the only place there to do so. Lola is a huge pig there btw.

I don't know . We were staying in Tamarindo and drove around. If you stay in Tamarindo you can walk to the beaches.

I would recommend contacting Iguana Surf they are in Tamarindo. They can rent you a board and make arrangement to get you there, they can also provide you an instructor if you wish. I would suggest staying in Tamarindo... More
