Playa Avellanas is south of Tamarindo, and north of Playa Negra. It is a beach break, with a wide sand beach, very popular. It is just south of an estuary (estero) and has a break that is called "little hawaii" that is very popular with the locals.

Beautiful and quiet beach (in comparison to Tamarindo). 20 minute drive from tamarindo, with it partially being dirt road (with a few potholes). But overall worth the trip. Lola's has a great view for lunch or an afternoon meal. A little pricey for their food, but worth it with the view.

It was just wonderful to walk through the beach and get to see all the beautiful shells and lovely nature. The waves right there are just amazing and it's a perfect place if you like to surf. It's a very quiet and virgin beach which it brings lots of serenity and tranquility to the soul. I totally recommend this beach... More

Great beach / get Victoria from Tamarindo Surf to take you! A bit of a bumpy drive but worth it for the waves and beach...

Beauty beach, great waves away from Tamarindo tourist zone. Rough gravel road on drive (watch out for potholes); crowded parking but helped by locals

nice clean beach, although at some point in the day is a little bit crowd.- There is lots of parking, and some people offering to guard the car.- Not 100% guarantee that nothing will happen, but keep your values with you or in the trunk.-

Uncrowded clean beach with only a few amenities, truly a perfect place to spend the day. Make sure you hit Lola's or the Beach Box for lunch.

Beautiful beach to visit in Costa Rica. It can sometimes get crowded, but it's worth the trip to visit.

Nice white sand beach. Not crowded and less developed than Tamarindo which is about half an hour away. Pretty much the only place to get something to eat is Lola's. Beach food there is good. $12 return shuttle from Tamarindo. $30 by taxi can be negotiated to $25. Bring your own beach chair/towel/umbrella. No rentals available. Only beach type furniture... More
