What a crazy existence! Google Maps had us going to the Marriott resort every chance it could, showing the Playa right in the middle of their development. Finally sheet a few wrong turns and readjustments we made it. It was a Monday so upon pulling up a local dressed in what could be mistaken as security or some official garb... More

This beach just really isn't worth the rating. In comparison with the other beach I have visited along this peninsula, it is the least attractive. There is only one restaurant (lolas) which is very nice but has a monopoly on the beach and therefore can charge inflated prices. $16 for a small veggie burger. The beach itself has no shade... Loved surfing here and Lola's restaurant is beautiful and has super yummy food! Make sure you get there before 6pm though, because that's when it closes!

Great little village with a nice long beach. Had drinks at Lola's and ate at The Beach Box. Both very good.

This beach is off the beaten path. Very remote, mostly frequented by surfers. It's absolutely beautiful, but beware of thieves. It is extremely hot and there is very little shade, so you might be tempted to put your things under the bit of shade under the small trees that line part of the beach. If you do, try to buddy... The beach is about a 45 minute beach walk from the JW. Marriott and has a popular restaurant Lola's nice dandy beach which is great since the beach in front of the JW is not really safe to swim in do to all the rocks.

We went to Lola's at Playa Avellena and fell in love with this beautiful spot. We surfed, walked on the beach, played in the ocean and ate lunch, had drinks, and ate dinner at Lola's

Such an awesome place. You can really do whatever you fancy here. There is good surf, and miles of beach to spread out on and never feel crowded. A restaurant at the top next to the parking that you do not want to miss (Lola's) and amazing sunsets...a piece of paradise...what more could you ask for?

My family and I loved Playa Avellana. An absolutely beautiful beach with plenty of room to enjoy yourself. The water and waves were excellent too. Stay near the beginning to experience lots of local Costa Rican culture or to grab lunch at Lola's. Or stroll down to the right a ways and you'll have the beach to yourself...get some shade... More

We visited here because of the proximity to Tamarindo. Attempted to go to the beach but it was insanely busy, I come from the New Jersey shore an dit made our 4th of July look like nothing. The "free parking" at the beach was manned by some local who only charges tourists so be careful. Definitely did not feel comfortable... More
