Visit all side of this beach for the different natural aspects. Tide pools, rocks, estuary inlet like a clear creek, surfing areas, Lola's. Low tide is the best for walking.

Experience surfing in costa rica like a local. Easy to rent surfboards and chairs right next to Lola's restaurant. Beach was perfectly clean, ocean is amazing. highly recommend.

I was pleasantly surprised when I encountered no crowds last week. We had expected lots of people but we got lucky? Perfect weather but a little bit windy.

Just do it - the road is a little crappy but this beach is awesome compared to Tamarindo. It’s a 45 minute drive and you will hit about 100 potholes but who cares, it’s a rental car anyway!! Bring a towel and a cooler tho...More

I thought this beach was stunning and relatively quiet. Just a great as t place to connect and unwind. Nice shops to rent boards. Good surfing. Lola's is just one of those places everyone should experience.

This is a really great beach (and I'm a beach snob!)! The water is easily wadeable, clear, and the beach is clean and seashells are abundant. While we were there it was pretty quiet. Not too many people there. Definitely quieter than Tamarindo. The sunset...More

We love Playa Avallenas and eating at Lolas! I must visit! The drinks and food are excellent and you can take a long walk along the beach and pick a spot to surf. Really a beautiful way to spend the day.

It made me fell in love with Costa Rica - Tamarindo in particular. I was there one early morning around 6 a.m. accompanying my son there to surf (not me) as the waves in Playa Tamarindo were not big enough for him. There were hardly...More

AVOID THIS BEACH. IF YOU DO GO, BE VERY CAREFUL. THERE ARE THIEVES. We were excited to check out this beach. We left our hotel in our little rental 4x4 (which you will need to get to the beach). The road to the beach is...More

great surfing and beach. I would choose this beach over tamarindo any day. it's much more quiet, so not so many options for food. but Lola's and Mauna Loa are better than most restauants in tamarindo anyways.

Not sure about the Zip line. There is not much at Playa Avelenas. The airport is about 1 hour 45 mins away, and the roads are not all paved into the beach area. I would definitely stop for groceries on the way in, to... More

Sorry if you already got your answer. If you’re passing by any of the major towns like Tamarindo or Santa Cruz, stock up there. Near Tamarindo at Villa Real is a great fruit stand. The two supermarkets near Villa Real north... More

I don't know . We were staying in Tamarindo and drove around. If you stay in Tamarindo you can walk to the beaches.
