Walk from JW Marriott takes 20-35 minutes - can rent surfboards (good selection / quality) from Mauricio at Lola's restaurant. Surf breaks ranging from beginner to advanced - low crowds - AWESOME!!

The beach itself was very nice but we didn't spend much time on it because we were playing in the waves almost the whole time. We went to the beach with our teenagers and spent several hours each day just playing in the waves. There were quite a few surfers there each time but there's plenty of room for everyone.... More

Thanks to Sebastian and Kelly's surf shop for taking us and teaching us how to surf this amazing place. It is only 20 minutes from Tamarindo but what a great way to start the day surfing at 7 am!!!! Great place!

To get here it is not on the beaten path but the new highway from Tamarindo helps. However, you will take gravel roads for several miles. A lot of surfing on the beach and care free lifestyle here. Don't expect the amenities that surround other local beaches. The sand is tan and nice.

Visited Playa Avellanas on Wednesday August 3. Entered from Lola's. Great beach. Long, must be two or three miles long. Surf able waves the entire length. I set up at the part called The Parking Lot. Spent over two hours in the water and it was one four or five foot wave after the other. No let up. Few people... More

Nice beach but it lacks facilities especially for young children. The waves are rough and there is not enough shade. If traveling with small children it might not be the best choice.

Slow getting there as a dirt road but worth it as it is not crowded. Recommend having a drink or eating at Lola's only restaurant there with clean bathroom facilities.

I came here after a morning of meetings and tried out surfing. It only cost $10 for a board for the day. So so much fun and what an excellent spot! There is a rip tide immediately after high water but the locals were quick to tell everyone. My client and I enjoyed a few cold beers bought from guys... More

If you want to Surf or Sup Surf in a different place far away of civilization, this is the place. It is a long sand beach full of Surf breaks all over. My recommendation is to visit this place first with a local or a guide, they will tell you the best spots. The parking is a mud place, this... More

We took our kids aged 10 and 12 to this beach on Sunday. We travelled from playa Flamingo. it's an interesting ride to the beach on a very bumpy dirt road so you need a 4X4. There is parking if you GPS to get to Lola's. You will need to tip when you leave. I would recommend going early as... More
