I phoned a few days in advance and was advised that a morning ride (1.5 hrs - 60 euros) would suit me best. Pick up and drop off at my hotel was included.
I am an experienced rider, but time was taken in the sand school to make sure that I was in full control and capable. They have some great facilities.
I rode the lovely Spot who was a real gentleman, and just what I needed as I suffer now from a bad back. All the horses are well looked after and clearly loved.
After a five minute ride, you are on the beach (seven miles) and we had a lovely early morning ride along the beach, in and out of the sea. There was plenty of trotting an cantering, without getting the horses either too hot or making them work excessively hard where the sand was deep.
It was a fantastic start to my day and I would thoroughly recommend.

We had a great experience riding by the sea yesterday morning! We were picked up from our hotel to the ranch were we where able have an early coffee and to see how they prepared the horses. They also let us help! Horses are amazing! We ride for 1 1/2 hour and it was one of a kind! Credits to our guides, Dimitra, Borris and Frid!!! Thank you!

Had a great sunset ride on the beach. I don't have much horse riding experience so the encouragement, patience and support of Aggelina was very much appreciated. The team at the stables were very friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend adding to your "to do" list whist in Rethymno. :-)

Friends
There were 3 of us out of our party that went for this, myself, my friend and her niece, booked through our hotel at 45 euro each for adults and 35 euro for children.
I haven't ridden for a few years, but my friend has her own horse a 17 hand ex race horse and rides regularly her niece is 9 and has had lessons,
We opted for the 1 hour gorge trek rather than the beach or river treks on offer.
We were collected from our hotel and driven to the stables about 15 mins away.
First impressions were very good, a huge well kept compound with 12 stables and a traditional Cretean farmhouse at the back. there was also a compound further back all set up for jump training
The horses were out and ready for us, been cared for by 3 girls whom we found out later were part of the 50 strong riding students the club caters for. we were given helmets and asked about our riding experiences then introduced to the horses and our guide.
I got up on a 15 hand full on stallion as lead horse my friend had one its partners and her niece had a pony...I was a bit bemused by this as I Thought Jo having far more experience riding than me she would take lead and the stallion.
Our guide let us walk on and kept hold of the pony walking at the side, we trekked off under direction up into the hills, It was scorching hot and dry but the horses were well used to it..unlike us...
There was just one moment when we passed another stables, when my stallion wasn't happy about one of the horses there making a move on his filly and I had all on keeping him under control, but our guide jumped in and took control and danger averted, the rest of the journey although spectacular and a fantastic ride was uneventful after that.
All in all a great ride, reminding me I should ride more often, I have friends with stables and horses who keep asking...so I should
Jo was really impressed with the whole set up, and she should know, having been around horses and stables for years, so if its a thumbs up from her, take it as gospel its a proper set up the horses are well cared for and not just a tourist trap rip off . we were talking to the owners afterwards and in fact tourist only represent 10% of what they do there, its rides in the morning , rest during lunch then the students get their training later in the day.
We had a potter about the stables afterwards, there was no lunch included in the deal we had and no option of stopping mid ride, but for only an hour it wasn't a problem, I don't know how it works for the 2 hour beach and river treks.
A VERY MUCH RECOMENDED VISIT but only if your serious about horses and riding
so for the 3 of us it was a very big Hi Ho Silver Away on my World Domination Tour.
Feel free to post me any questions regarding the ride. As usual I try to be honest and impartial and only write about my own personal experience in my reviews, also please check out my other reviews on Rthymnon and other stop offs.
bye for now

Family
My small daughter had a 15 min pony ride and was amazed. They offer also longer trips (beach, nature or beach & nature) about 1-2 hours long for the whole family. On the farm there is a little playground for kids and place to sit and rest. There are also other animals on the farm.

Hi there! Do you have facilities for children to ride your ponies? My daughter is 5 years old and would need guidance and a small pony.
