Just another church
Feb 2020
The church is a little bit of a walk from the port, especially with the heat of Brazil.
Nothing too special, a couple of artifact pictures.
If your in the area, good to stop by

Another church!
Dec 2019
We had a day in Parintins from a cruise ship. Having been to a Boi Bumba show put on for the cruise passengers we still had time to wander the town. There is not much there! This cathedral is an obvious site to visit, but it was not open when we visited. There is an interesting cemetery behind the cathedral.
We also found some interesting street murals in Parintins.

Just another church
Mar 2019 • Couples
As part of our pedicab tour, we stopped at the church for a few minutes to look around. It was just another church, nothing special.

Cathedral and School
Nov 2018 • Solo
The official name is Cathedral of Our Lady of Carmo and is the largest structure in town. Its simple design adds to its beauty. Repairs were being done when we visited. It is easy to find the church has it has a high tower with Mary overlooking the Amazon River and watching over the city. The Stations of the Cross are beautiful paintings. On the front altar, there is as image of Our Lady of Carmo. I was fortunate to meet the priest who encouraged me to visit the nearby school. Recommend a visit.

The school is located on the grounds of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Carmo. The grounds of the school are quite impressive. Classrooms are located on the second level and I believe administrative offices and such on the first level. I peeked in a couple classrooms and they looked like any classroom in the United States.

Top Feature in Parintins
Oct 2016 • Couples
This is by far one of the icon features of Parintins, a town that really offers it's basic charm and overall Amazon community, not offering building sites. It really seems out of place, although basic it is by far the most modern.

One of the few sites to see in Parintins.
Feb 2017 • Couples
We visited Parintins on a Sunday so many of the local shops were closed. We had time to spend in town while we were waiting for the Boi Na Bomba show in the afternoon. We walked all over town which is easy since the town is not very large. A few people rented the little three wheel bike taxis to drive them around because the weather is hot.

The cathedral is the largest structure in town and is in the best physical shape of any stucture as well. It is a very simple design and although it is in better shape than most buildings, it needs some repairs as well.

The city gives you a view of what many of Brazil's towns are experiencing...lack of funding to keep up the infrastructure. There are open sewers along the streets and vultures roaming the streets, too. Many of the buildings are in disrepair as well.

Who'd've believed it?

As befits this city this Cathedral is definitely the largest structure you'll see as you dock. From a distance another church complex is a little closer to town, but everything in Parintins is relative. The Cathedral is both the largest and the most modern building in the city and is simplicity itself inside with minimal statuary and even a completely open building where birds fly uninterrupted in and out. The Cathedral is on Rua Matriz (as so many Brazilian mother churches are), about an easy 10 minute stroll from the dockside.

the biggest and best building in town
Jan 2017 • Couples
This is a sleepy, rather flyblown place on the banks of the Amazon, with not a lot going on, which is actually part of its charm, since it makes no concessions to tourists so you get to see the real Amazonia. However, the Cathedral is worth a visit. Open on a number of sides to encourage a cooling draft it is large and impressive while avoiding becoming overpowering, due to the simplicity of its design and modest appointments

Not much to see in Parintins
Feb 2017 • Couples
His cathedral as built the early sixties and as such doesn't really have much of archectural significience.

It is covered in tiles that resume bricks and is quite nice inside without being spectacular. It gives the appearance of a functional church.

There is not much else to see in Parintins, so it is worth the time to walk here.

Newest structure in PARINTINS.

A lovely simple church and well worth a visit. The stone work is well done. No air conditioning so always very hot inside. There is a bright cheerful cemetery just behind the cathedral.
