This was a highlight of our Amazon tour. This is a recreation of the second largest carnival next to The Carnival held in Rio. Beautiful choreography with high energy by the performers. Extremely colorful and non stop for 2& 1/2 hours. Well worth seeing.

This festival recreation is a phenomenal experience. The dancers and singers are so full of energy. My description would be indigenous dancers mixed with Brazilian traditions. What an arrayed colors! Don’t miss it. Besides it’s on f the few air conditioned venues in Parintins!

Reflects the Red/Blue competition in the town

It is amazing how people in Parintins are split into the two camps - Garantido and Caprichoso - in celebrating the Bumba Boi tradition. Buying a souvenir I asked the vendor several times which he was before he admitted his commitment to Caprichoso (while trying to sell me a Garantido cap), The stadium is huge, out of proportion with the size of the ton, which shows how the Bumba Boi festival has grown not only within the ton but attracts visitors too.

Costumes, feathers, singing, dancing.

Wonderful show presented by the locals. Non-stop dancing and singing with each venue more spectacular than the next. You are close enough to touch the performers but your head will be on a swivel catching the next entering display. More choreographed than Carnival but every bit as fun.

Also visited area where the floats and figures are constructed. Huge animated figures and floats made new each year for the competition of teams. Incredibly colorful and even frightening.

Comfortable and generally clean all though even in 2006 it was quite crowded, seats are hard but the views were great.

A remarkable structure in this remote town on the River Amazon. Boi Bumba is the centre of the culture in this little place. Everything seems to revolve around the festival.

Boi Bumba extravaganza
Jan 2015 • Friends
We were on a cruise ship which anchored off Parintins, Brazil. The show was offered as an excursion and what an excursion! The building seats a couple of hundred people and the show was put on especially for the cruise passengers. As you enter the building, you are offered a caipriana, national drink - it's the real McCoy, not watered down!
The show is a vibrant, very lively dance extravaganza, with more than 100 dancers in fabulous colourful costumes, dancing and prancing about the floor area. During the performance, an array of colourfully decorated floats are weaved into the story which tells the legend of a farmer and his wife who steal a bull from a local landowner, kill the bull and eat it. When the landowner finds out, he threatens to kill the couple unless they can resurrect the bull before midnight! With the help of a priest, a shaman and an African palsanto, the bull was miraculously brought back to life. Ah! Legends.
The legend is acted out every year in June as part of a folklore festival which attracts thousands of people and is the second largest annual festival in Brazil. Definitely worth a visit.
